Gods, I sure am frustrated with the state of this game. Here are some of the issues that have recently been bugging the hell out of me (I'm not using any mods):

    • Battles with AI-controlled allied armies are practically unplayable. Your so-called "allies" will direct their artillery fire without regard for other allied troops that might be standing in the way. In my last battle, an allied Polish army that came up to "support" me inflicted 5 times as many casualties on my troops as the opposing Russian army did. Lame.
    • In another battle also involing allied troops, an army of mine rushed to help defend a large Hessian star fort from a French attack. I tried to get 2 batteries of horse artillery into the fort as quickly as possible to use grape shot to pulverize any French infantry that made it through a breach in the wall. Unfortunately I couldn't get my artillery to move into the fort because they kept getting stuck at the entrance. I ended up having to blast out a section of wall to make a hole that my batteries could use to move into the fort. Stupid.
    • Why does the AI think attacking a besieging French army (consisting of several French guards regiments and 4 batteries of artillery) with nothing but a fort's complement of Hessian armed citizenry on turn one of the siege is a bright idea?
    • Occasionally, horse artillery somehow gets stuck while unlimbering and then remains in a "half-limbered" state, unable to fire, move or limber, effectively rendering it unusable for the rest of the battle.
    • Fresh units coming up as reinforcements during a battle sometimes appear right in the rear of an enemy army that is deployed on the extreme edge of the battle field (i.e. an entire map's length away from the nearest friendly unit). They will then merrily walk onto the battlefield in an agonizingly SLOW manner and be blasted to pieces the moment the player gains control of the newly arrived unit. Stupid ... RETARDED even.
    • Sometimes, when rushing a bunch of units into a fort, they will run a couple feet, then stop for a few seconds, the run another couple feet, then stop, then run, etc. etc. The workaround is to let them run all the way to a point just OUTSIDE the gates, THEN have them actually run into the fort. I can live with that, but it's still a bit silly.
    • Sometimes a unit of infantry deployed on the wall of fort will utterly and totally annihilate itself ... by walking down the stairs and then instantly dropping dead at the base of the stairs. WTF?!

There a more issues, but I don't remember them all right now and you probably know most of them already, so I'd be telling you nothing new anyway. Anyhow, the point is that while this game is mostly playable, it is still nowhere near in an acceptable state. CA, please devote some more time toward fixing this game. The remaining bugs are keeping this good game from being an utterly awesome game.

You should have seen how things were in Empire.

Anyway, CA is far too busy trying to release Shogun.II as soon as possible, and as its various statements imply, it probably won't be giving a dime's worth of care to Nappy.

Does anyone ? It's not just depriving Naps of affection, but it's also gonna produce a Shogun.II that's downright buggy and half-baked on release.

I don't know if this complaint is valid. The happens in reality although not in the movies.

Except in reality armies at least TRY to avoid blue on blue. In the game it's as if the AI isn't even AWARE that there are allied troops present on the battlefield.

have you seen the footage from the inside of an american plane, where they destroy several clearly british armoured vehicles before saying "we're going to jail dood" 10seconds later.

Look, what's your point? I'm not arguing that friendly fire happens in real life. But it's usually an accident and most militaries actually do try to avoid it. Granted, it doesn't always work out.
Anyway, a battery of horse artillery unlimbering 50 feet behind my line infantry and then blowing an entire regiment to bits with grape shot goes a bit too far, dontcha think?

Which is of course nonsense because everybody knows US armed forces personnel dont go to jail no matter who they kill, wether it be a couple of british squaddies, 24 iraqi civilians (haditha street), or 500 vietnamese women and children (My Lai)

Well a real battlefield was covered with smoke and knowing what you were shooting at became progressively more difficult.

Rouke's drift is a good example of that. Even though the Matini Henry rilfe was fairly accurate, it was still black powder. Of the 20,000 rounds they had ,the defenders expended 19,000 to succeed in killing a few hundred Zulu's. If the Zulu's had off launched another assault they would have overran the defenders.

At certain point it became shoot into the smoke and hope it connects with the enemy.

So a more authentic battle field would be obscured by smoke and you the human player would struggle with an AI that isn't bothered by smoke.

Unless your an American Jet Fighter and you drop a missile on a British soldier... Or if your a American artillery regiment and you fire on a British armoured vehicle... Dunno if you can see where I'm going here.

We'll just agree that it does happen.

What the hell is the matter with you people, have you all just discovered your passion for contrarianism? Again, blue on blue does occasionally happen in the real world ... I'm not debating that point. But clearly, armies generally tend to do what they can to minimize the chances of it happening. Are YOU debating THAT point? Or the point that the AI in the game seems blatantly unaware of the presence of any allied troops on the battle field?

Yeah just look at the 2003 invasion of Iraq. The yank pilots racked up a nice tally of british vehicles and soldiers.

u never know. 50 feet is a long distance when there is smoke and muskets bullets flying everywhere and everyone around you is getting shot and dieded and kildeded and shotted and bayoneted and blown-aparted in gruesomed manners

I think this is what annoys me most of all issues the game still has. It is so micro-intensive to find a position where it won't happen, and even then it's often hit and miss.
    Also, artillery stops firing when its assigned target moves into a too steep angle. That by itself is fine (although I would prefer them searching a new target on their own);
but at least the status shown on the mouse-over popup needs to be updated to not display "firing" anymore. The way it is, you check the actual firing status, you have to zoom in to look at the animation (for quite some time too).

The other stuff you mentioned don't concern me a lot since I basically exclusively play MP now. Also tbh in my campaigns, I very rarely had any battles with an allied AI.

no, now whats annoying is that i was squaring off with 1 half stack, and 1 full stack for reinforcements against 2 enemy full stacks, both reinforcements entered on the same side of the map, same area too, so the general of my second stack showed up and i could use him, and then my 1st cavalry unit showed up, but it wasn't selectable, so it just walked to the centre of the map, after this, no more of my reinforcements showed up, so i had to take on 2 full stacks with a half stack and a general... on VH, needless to say, i lost

You realise you can re-order the units in your reinforcement stack so the infantry or artillery come on first?

Your only option is a unit gets stuck is to have saved and reload.
