It doesn't let me start a Main Campaign, Provincial Campaign, or Custom battle. For the Main campaign, I click on "main campaign" and a message appears that says "please select an item from the list".

For Provincial Campaign, I select the faction I want to use, and it says "please select an item from the list".

When I try to start a custom battle, on the unit purchase screen, after I click the "begin battle" button, it takes me back to the faction select menu and not able to move the unit purchase screen.

And finally, when I closed out of the game, this message appeared(the attachment):

The most common cause of this problem is that you have the wrong version of RTW. Check your version number on the in-game options screen; it should be 1.5, 1.6, or 1.9. Even if you own a box that claims to be the latest version there is no guarantee that the patching process worked correctly, so you still need to check the version in-game.

Another, less likely but still possible, cause is that you are trying to play with the wrong exe. If you select the "play with BI" option when you install XGM but then use an old XGM shortcut that's pointing to a different exe then you will get the same problem.

I have a game pack called "Rome: Total War: Anthology" that comes with RTW(in one install disc), BI, and Alexander. For some reason it displayed the version as 1.5 BEFORE I installed BI, and it said the same after. I'm not sure if this affects it or not but it might be that it's actually only patched to 1.3 but SAYS 1.5. I have no idea.
