clearly Julius had been drinking some wine prior to arriving, and was made even more distraught by the events in the Senate. However, realising how unprofessional and patrician he had been acting, he quickly calmed down and awaited Naevius

Octavius beckoning to Julius's own personal slave, remove 3 bottles of wine from my gift, and put them where your master keeps his fine wines. The rest..(which was quite a large amount) put in the winery. Ill wait for Naevius here, you are dismissed after you complete your tasks

Octavius smiled and bowed to his master...thinking to himself "hmm, the republic should be in peril more often.i get off easy when it is!"

Naevius greeted the senator and welcomed him in to his villa.
Would you mind if we spend the evening in the garden Julius, he asked with a unusual to him mirthful voice.

O yes Julius, many things are in my mind, many toughs and many unanswered questions. However I would not like to bore you with most of them as I'm sure that your time is a precious as mine.
Now if I may ask, he said as slaves quickly started to fill the large wooden table with exotic food, what is you stance about the way both of our consuls walked into the curia the other day?

The Consuls...bah..have they complete disregard for the very laws of this republic? Entering the senate chambers in military regalia, yet another step towards the end of the republic. they claim Hannibal is the biggest enemy of the Republic, but i beg to differ. It is men like the Consuls and the Praetor that are the enemy to the Republic. When we throw the laws out, then we lose. Such behavior..such unruly behavior..it is an affront to the Senate, yet none seem to realise this.

Julius motioned to the slave for another glass...

Now Scaurus, he is a man of the Republic. I hope that he get elected for Consul this term as he clearly would serve the republic in a good way.
Aquila on the other hand seem to sympathize with the plebeians even tough he is of patrician birth. This republic is clearly not what it use to be, Naevius said and nodded to the blue eyed slave. He could clearly need a drink and his guest didn't look like he would mind about it.

Julius burst out in laughter at his own silly joke

however, ive noticed you also are running for Praetor. I do not see this as a competition. I see it as a gift to the Republic. With one of us Praetor, and Scaurus as Consul, perhaps the law of the Republic will finally be brought back. Aquila...HA...he deserves to be stripped of his status as a patrician. With him as consul, unchecked, he will give in to their demands and dismantle the republic one piece at a time.

I'm sure Scarus is capable to make sure that such a thing will not happen.
And yes it is good that two honored men like us is running for the praetor position. This will lead to stability and prospering for the republic.

Gerges arrived, he had hastened to the Domus of Naevius upon hearing his slaves message that he had come looking for him at the Domus some weeks ago. He knocked on the door and awaited admission, mulling over the the state that Rome had greeted him in upon his return.
