Rome: Total War encountered an unspecified error and will now exit

Hi all.
The error happens always after it first appears and is seemingly impossible
I have no idea what is triggering the above error. I first experienced it 2 weeks ago, but reinstalling rtw fixed it. A couple of days later I encountered it again, but this time had to reinstall windows.

It worked. But today I had it again. I reset my system to an earlier phase from a system image, but it didn't help.


Please help me!!!

The first time I had IBFD. Then I reinstalled and installed persian invasion and rise of persia. Now I had roma surrectum II and IBRR, but these were each on their own copies.

After one gets the error, all copies fail.

What kind of condition is your disc in? When was the last imte you cleaned it?

It is clean and without any scratches. But after reinstalling the forst time, the game worked. It broke down later.

How much stuff do you have running in the background?
How much alt-tabbing do you do during the game?

Hi all, it's my first time in this forum and I have the same problem on XP SP3. I have the RTW Gold Edition since severall years and last week I installed Roma Surrectum II and played it without any problem. From one day to the other without any changes on my PC PIV with 3GHZ I get the same message. I already deleted the game and cleaned the Registry with REGSEEKER. Installations in different directories and languages. Don't know what to do.

Put -show_err in the command line in Target is your best chance if it is throwing an error.

No, what happens is that a window message appears when you are exiting the game.

Not all errors result in such a message - only the ones that are 'trapped' by the program. Typically, these are 'file missing' messages but there are others.
