Default Problems after Downloading through Steam

I played the game from the CD, but I wanted the expansion. So I just finished downloading the Gold edition (both the original game and expansion), and after the original game was done downloading, it is coming up with this error:

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

Not really sure how it happened. Maybe because the expansion is downloading?

Log into Steam, and verify the game's cache integrity.

Nope that didn't work. Obviously there's a problem with "null" somewhere but I'm not really sure how to edit that sort of stuff from steam, much less in a .txt document.

Check your permissions for Steam and Medieval2 through your security/firewall/router.

Yes they both have permissions. Not sure what could be causing this. It runs the version off the C.D. just fine. Maybe it is because it's part of a package through steam and Kingdoms is still downloading?

There is that possibility. Do you have Steam to start when you turn on your computer? Have you checked your Steam account as to the status of the games?

No I start it manually. I've been keeping it up all day waiting for Kingdoms to finish. A couple more hours.

Then, you are not done, yet.
When done, verify your game cache integrity.

Ironically enough, it wasn't working because my speakers weren't plugged in. LOL. It is working now. Thanks.

It does say you need sound. Glad it's now working.
