I'm gonna hazard a guess and say that is a rebel army, and the general's bodyguard is peasants or another max-size unit.

lol ive seen that, its funny, thats ss right, and yea its a bug sometimes, the general gets number of units as its units, so u can have like 250 at once. its really rare thouge

Most likely a spawn by a script with a non bodyguard as the first unit listed in the spawn. That unit then automatically becomes the general's bodyguard

Yes that's correct for testing open the descr_strat.txt file go to any general and remove the line for bodyguard and the unit under it will act as its bodyguard on battle map.
