Default Khan's Guard for Khan and Heir

Had this idea a while back, but I have absolutely no clue as to how to realise it. Don't even know if it's possible...

Rather than the Khan and the Heir having normal Bodyguard troops, I'm trying to replace them with units of Khan's Guard. These Khan's Guard units would be unbuildable by normal means - they would only be created for the Faction Leader unit and the Heir unit, and so would be unique troops.

The Khan would have a large unit of 50-60 or so, and the heir would have a unit of 30.

Is this at all possible? Perhaps through a Faction Leader Specific Ancillary or somesuch? I'm more of a modeller/texturer, and don't really know where to start.

So, I'll leave this interesting problem with the experts.

If you assign them to be a general unit then whenever you recruit them a new general will pop along with it.

    Thanks for the quick reply!

Would this do the job exactly, though?

What is needed is for only the Faction Leader and the Heir to be comprised of Khans Guard units.

Other Family Members/Recruited Generals would be comprised of standard Mongol Bodyguards.

So, if both the Faction Leader and the Heir are both killed, the next Faction Leader get their units changed from Mongol Bodyguards to Khan's Guard, whilst keeping all previous traits/ancillaries. The characters of the Faction Leader and Heir remain the same, but the units they are comprised of would change upon succession.

Sorry if I wasn't too clear in the first post (or if indeed I have misunderstood your reply).

Unfortunately not possible, Moru. You can set it up in descr_strat so the first king and heir use different bodyguards but their offspring will use the default.

You could set the battle model to khan guard via the script. Simply adapt this script from the teutonic campaign:

    Code:
        ;---------------  HOCHMEISTER BATTLE MODEL -----------------;

;apply the Hochmeister battle_model to the Teutonic Order faction leader whenever a new leader is assigned
        monitor_event BecomesFactionLeader FactionType teutonic_order

            change_battle_model teutonic_order leader Teutonic_Hochmeister

        end_monitor
Replace 'BecomesFactionLeader' with 'BecomesFactionHeir' in a second script (and 'leader' with heir).

Yeah we can use that but it only works for Faction leader & faction heir.
    Code:
    change_battle_model england leader [model]
    change_battle_model england heir [model]

If we aim at the wrong target then the shot becomes possible!

So this method would replace only the individual battle models of the faction leader and heir - and the rest of the bodyguard would remain as the standard bodyguard units?
But am I right in thinking that this method cannot be applied further - to include the faction leader and his surrounding units? Does it only work as in the Teutonic Campaign?

Is the root of this problem that only the first 'bodyguard' type of unit listed can be used - and even if other unit types are listed as such, only the first in the list counts?

    Yes.

The command only affects the battle model of faction leader not his bodyguard types etc.

Works in any mod that uses kingdoms.exe to launch itself.
