What are we looking at here in terms of TW games past, present and future? Many thanks.

It can't run M2TW & RTW well because 1.7Ghz thingy as these games uses a single core. Quad support is not that good in ETW\NTW but will run ok imo.

Resolution and settings?

At the typical 1366x768 resolution though, looks like a solid performer. It will plow through the older TW games and do okay on ETW/SIITW.

It's a good laptop overall, but it's big flaw seems to be the crappy battery life, so do your laptop gaming when you're plugged in.

It should do fine. It won't be like 100 fps, but it should be smooth.

It won't run it fine trust me mods like SS6.3 on huge settings will kill it.
If UI scale set normal and playing vanilla and on mid resolution 1366x768 will be fine.

I can't afford a true "gaming laptop" this is more for pissing around on the internet, work etc, I only play Football Manager, paradox games and the odd old strategy game or city builder.

For "gaming" which I'm not particularly into, I have a chipped xbox. I'd like to play M2TW or maybe Napoleon, on medium, it isn't asking much.

If I were you I would wait for SB, since the performqnce of the quads would be much improved.. now for the i7 740qm running mtw well... yes it will run on high settings at a low resolution or a medium res not the 1080p that this lappy offers... the clock on a single core is high enough for that

In the sb line the lowest clock of a quad is 2ghz instead of the poor 1.73ghz of the i7 740qm

Sandy bridge new line of intel cpus thpe launch will jan 5thand there were sevral laptops with the new chips being spotted in the wild, and it appears that the battery life will be improved as well according to the epeat ratings, you can check their site to see the power use of the new chips the difference is huge

Jan 5th sure, but when will the cost come down?

Not that I plan on waiting that long, I have 2 weeks off over Christmas and New Year and would very much like to enjoy that time getting drunk and playing FM when recovering.

I forget the specs of my laptop but its worse than that one and I play SPQR:RTW no problem on it.
