Default How do u put on a new unit card ??????

    Hi,

I downloaded a spartan skin (ATG Spartans) and i installed it and play a map with spartan units, the mods works fine as in the unit model is there i have no problems with the model of the unit, Now the problem is that there is a unit card it says on the read me, which says ''I've also included a custom Unit and Unit Info card for each variant.'' but there is no unit card just the plain old red spartan card that u get with the game, theres not the card of the ''new'' spartan, how do i add the unit card ? for the new spartan. is it in the UI folder ? oh the skin comes with a installer so the unit card should be ''on'' when i installed the new skin.

    Thanks

sorry if in wrong forum section

If it came with the install you should have a folder called UI. The Spartan cards should be in Data\UI\units\greek and Data\UI\unit_info\ greek. I think I got that right, not at home now. The problem is the comp looks in the packs folder first and if it finds it there it uses the existing unit card. To get around this problem you have to use this tool http://www.twcenter.net/downloads/db/?mod=43 to un-pack the packs folder. This creates a new data folder within the packs folder. Then it gets more tricky. You have to take all the unpacked data in the unpacked UI folder and put it into the UI folder that should already exist in your data folder, but save those Spartan cards first and replace the existing Spartan cards. Now save your UI.pak folder somewhere and replace it with a new blank UI.pak folder. Now when the comp goes looking for those cards it will look past the UI.pak folder and see them in your data\UI folder instead.

    I hope this helps.

Sorry but I don't know any other way. The comp looks at the pak file first if it see the cards there it uses that one. If you add new units you wont have that problem. You could change the name of the unit slightly across several files and then you wouldn't have too, but that takes more time to execute and explain.

Ok I just took a look at it, I'm home now. You have to unzip it first. Then drag and drop the 2 files xpak.exe, xpak.bat inside the data\packs folder. Now from within that folder just double click on the xpak.bat icon and it will start. You may have to hit one key, it looks like dos. After thats done you'll have an extra folder within packs called data inside of that are all the unpacked .pak files. Now If you already have a UI folder in the data folder, which you should if the skin program loaded unit cards, you'll need to move that to the desktop temporarily. Move the UI folder out of the packs\data folder and place it in your main data folder where the old one was. Now you have to replace/overwrite those cards. Then its on to the mock ui_i.pak file.

I'll be up for awhile, so if you need some more help just post. I'm going to be playing my new mod to see if it needs more fine tuning and for fun. I'll check back.

    Good Luck.

I will assume that means you have unpacked the ui_1.pak and placed it in you main data folder and then replaced the cards in the UI folder. So now go into your packs folder again and take the original ui_1.pak and store it somewhere or dump it. Create a new text file within the packs folder and name it ui_1.pak this will cause the comp to look to the next spot for the cards which is the new UI folder in the main data folder. Thats it.

Good job explaining it PatWest! This topic should be pinned because his explanation on how to replace unit cards certainly helped me.

    Good Job!
