I was at a concert over new year, fantastic band playing (the Coral) But what struck me was that the crowed changed to a mob when the police Highland Band came on, they were throwing Beer Cans at them, Sticking up the Middle finger and telling the police to go Fornicate themselves....I was embarresed to be in the crowd.....I mean, it wasnt the odd person, but the whole damn group (i stayed out of it)

So i guess the question is - Why do we devolve to Mob Rule in those situations??

the coral are a big band. even when i saw them 2 years ago.
the thing is, supporting bands willo always get some stick. no matter how good they are. there has not been asingle concert i hsve been to in britain that the supporting bands have not been abused. its just the way us brits are

For some reasone humans still haven't tossed aside all our animal instinct and do in fact become have that herd mentality that orginally was used to protect ourselves from predators. It is just another reminder that we are still animals no matter how sentient we might think we are.

If youre asking why people get that "F the police" attitude....well I dunno about Britian but here in America it usually has to do with minorities, opressed youths, impoverished communities and all that...the standard bit. Usually a democratic convension mob isnt spitting on and throwing stuff at the police...neither are most grass roots political type movements...but sometimes races and cultures still clash here violently, just like the '65 Watts riots and the '92 L.A. riots following the rodney king incident. Other minorities arent quite large or cohesive enough to cause violent riots where police get hurt, here in the U.S. that is.
