Default Problem with RTR Platinum 1.9

Hello all, having a frustrating problem.

I bought R:TW for Steam, and installed. I downloaded RTR Platinum 1.9 with intent to play. I followed these instructions:

    10) How can I play RTR with Steam?

    1. Run the FoE installer like normal, changing the install path to xxxx/steam/steamapps/common/rome total war gold
    2. Ignore the launcher and short-cut prompts, they won't work
    3. Open Steam, right-click on Rome: Total War Gold in the My Games menu
    4. Select Properties
    5. Under the General tab select Set launch options ...
    6. Type in -mod:FOE -show_err -nm without quotations and click OK
    7. Launch Rome: Total War Gold by double-clicking it in the My Games menu
    8. Select Barbarian Invasion from the two-choice list and Launch.
However, when I run the game, it just loads regular R:TW. I have two icons generated by RTW and mod on my desktop, both with the -mod:FOE -show_err -nm at the end, both say "failed to find Steam" when I click on them. I searched the forums, but can't find an answer to this problem? How do I make Steam/game/etc. recognize that I'm running a mod and not just the standard game?

I've got no experience with Steam, but doesn't the FAQ say to ignore the shortcuts and work via the ''my games'' menu in Steam? Try doing exactly what the list says and then come back to us.

    Welcome to the Forums

Those instructions are for Fate of Empires

    6. Type in -mod:RTRPE-show_err -nm without quotations and click OK

    Try that instead

Thanks for the advice, unfortunately it still doesn't work. It keeps loading regular Rome: Total War.

Is it possible that my computer is not allowing the installation program from installing correctly? I run Windows 7, which has the screwy DLC permissions ad protection and all....everything seemed to work fine though.

I had a similar problem with a mod for Empire: Total War on Steam a long time ago, I fixed it somehow.

Here's a picture of my Rome: Total War folder in my Steam directory, does it look like the files were installed correctly? I'm not sure but looking in the "RTRPE" folder it seems that's the mod content, shouldn't that be distributed into the game's actual folders?

There needs to be a space between -mod:RTRPE and -show_err

hmmm, that RTRPE-show_err looks wrong but shouldnt affect the mod

RTRPE installs into its own directory and looks to be in the right place
    Does BI work ok?

This time I attempted reinstalling with the installer in the Rome directory...when running BI with the RTR extension in that line, the game is constantly minimizing into the start bar when I click on it to maximize...for a split second I see a regular RTW loading screen but it's different loading art every time.

Let me try regular RTW: BI without the extension.

    EDIT - wait.

Regular BI does work, a little wonky in the beginning, but it works. What's strange is the gladius loading bars are present now.

If I add the extension to activate the mod, it starts doing the minimizing nonsense. But the ICON changes to the RTR icon in the start bar.

Nope. no luck...but it's definitely something that's stopping the mod from doing it's work....

Haha, now its different. If I run BI with the extension now, it runs regular Rome: Total War instead. No minimizing at least. Without the extension, it just runs regular BI.

I think I solved at least half of the problem by giving more permissions to the RTRPE folder. Whatever was making it automatically minimizing and preventing it from running is solved, but it's still not running the mod.

This is my Target Line "C:\........\Rome Total War\RomeTW-BI.exe" -show_err -nm -mod:RTRPE

Make sure you are running in Normal Window - not minimised

    Your extension WORKS!

But, my game keeps automatically minimizing on me. How do I stop this? ARRGH, so close to completion!

In the properties section under the "Shortcut" Tab, you should see Run: and a drop down menu. Make sure you have "Normal Window" selected

if everything fails, try reinstalling... Maybe some file went shishquebab up its arse while you were editing the extensions and stuff...
