Default First Build, Need General Help

So I'm building a gaming/light enthusiast type PC for the my first build ever. I don't really know what I am doing but I've learned a lot over the last few weeks. Here is what I have in mind. Tell me what you think.

    • Corsair 6GB Dominator DHX+ PC3-12800 C8 Triple Channel DDR3 Kit (3 x 2GB)
    • MSI N460GTX Hawk GeForce GTX 460 1GB PCI-E w/ Dual DVI, HDMI
    • Corsair Professional Series Gold AX 750W Power Supply
    • Cooler Master HAF X High Air Flow Full Tower Chassis
    • Western Digital 1TB Caviar Black 7200rpm SATA III w/ 64MB Cache
    • Samsung SH-S243D 24x DVD-Writer, SATA, Black
    • Corsair Hydro Series H70 High-Performance CPU Cooler
    • BenQ E2420HD 24in Widescreen LCD, Black w/ 2xHDMI, USB, Speakers
    • Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard, v.2
    • Razer DeathAdder Gaming Mouse or a G500

Any thoughts on it so far? Too expensive maybe?
I intentionally left out the CPU and MB because I am undecided on it. I am looking at either a:

    1. Intel i7 950 3.06 GHz (not unlocked) quad core for $300 with an Asus Sabertooth x58 MG
    2. AMD Phenom II x6 1090T 3.2 hexacore Unlocked for only $240. Not sure on a MB. Any suggestions? Are any compatible with SLI?

Am I missing something? Why on earth are Intel CPUs so much more expensive? Are they better? And why cant I find a decent AMD MB? Really don't know what to do here.

The first config in points is very good no problems in it as i can see. You can though save some money in the PSU and use a 550W PSU and why AX use a simple TX one no need for fancy stuff, but modular looks cool alright so you can go with it choice is yours but the power is over kill for a GTX460.

If you are gonna SLI with another then 700W is more than enough.

And for CPU i7930 is more than enough bro no need to go high if you are just a gamer. X6 is also good but i'm not a AMD processor guy but they are cheaper and should be bought if a guy is game oriented only.
And yes Intel is expensive because they are idiots.
As for Sabertooth i like this MOBO a good choice. As for X6's MOBO that is AMD i have little knowledge is that area so don't wanna guess a MOBO i don't know about.

Good build. I won't decide whether to choose between Intel or AMD, but I will say this. I buy AMD because I don't like Intel. While Intel chips are overall faster, if an AMD chip is competing at the same price point as an Intel it is usually faster. For instance the Phenom II 1090t is on average a bit better than the i5 760, which is at the same pricepoint.

Also, unless you get an AMD motherboard that uses an nVidia nForce chipset, it won't support nVidia...at least not officially. Finally, I don't know what you mean a decent AMD mb. For the most part AMD mobos are cheaper and have just as many features as Intel boards.

SLI Hack. Tricks the graphics driver into thinking it's an x58 SLI compatible motherboard, even if it's not.

I'd recommend getting the HD 6850 though. Less power use, but more powerful.

    It's also cheaper.

If you need more power, you can move up to a 6870 instead.

As for your choice of motherboard, you have a massive choice of good motherboards.

Also, the H70 is not really necessary if you don't plan to overclock. A heatsink cooler, or an H50 would be fine if you just run things at stock.
