I have the same problem, I turned of anti-aliasing, but all I get a lot of tga while, with only a few sprites on it. Need help desperately.
It`s normal. You`ll get one .spr file for each unit you made sprites for and a number of .tga files. You might get only one or two tga files per unit(happens especially with cavalry units), but you might get considerable more. Like 6 or so .tga files for the pikemen. The .tga files are teh ones that store teh images with teh unit in action so if a unit takes more space you`ll get more files. Open one and you`ll see.
Also, as said above, the .tga files need to be converted to .dds. Just make sure that their name after conversion ends in .tga.dds and not just .dds.
The problem is that I don't get 1-6 .tga files for one unit, I'll get like 40 or more for one unit. And looks different then the ones in the pack files, when converted from .texture to .dds. It has a lot smaller number of sprites on it (see the attached image).
That is again fine. You get different sprites depending on the number of factions that can have each unit - and yes this is how they look. After the sprite generation process is complete just take the .tga files, convert them to .dds and then rename them to blablabla.tga.dds (as said above). Then put all .spr and .tga.dds files into the sprites folder.
Ok, I made another test with tsars_guard. The result is 40 .tga files and one .spr and for one faction only (russia). Is this ok?
I checked the sprite files for tsars_guard in the packed (vannilla) files and there are only 2 texture files and 1 spr file. And they look a lot different, then the file I've attached earlier.
Make sure you're not using 32-bit settings, make sure 32-bit is set to false in the preferences.

I can't find "32-bit" in the preferences nor anything similar. What should I enter to set 32-bit to false?
It's in the preferences.txt file in the preferences folder.
