    Default Victory conditions

Just out of curiosity: do you play to meet the victory conditions?
    (I'm not.)

    No.
I've never reached the victory conditions in 6.3. I did reach them once or twice in 6.1 or 6.2, though.

In vanilla I have done it a few times, along with all of the other Expansions.

In every game since though, never on purpose, and then if I do I usually chuckle in surprise, and click "Continue Game."

I usually play for the fun of the game.
If I reach the victory conditions, I consider that as a "bonus".

The point is, that to be victorious you have to expand. When I'm only half way my conditions (or even when I have just 10 provinces, sometimes) it's way too easy and I get bored, usually. Dominion of the Sword claims it will fix this ('no unhistorical conquests of half the map') so I'm eagerly awaiting it.

i'm very surprised by the results! i didn't realize how few people actually try for the victory conditions. i do. i like the sight of a huge empire with massive cities and castles growing from an insignificant collection of tiny villages and wooden castles.

Hardly ever. I don't really care about victory conditions, I want to play my own way and set may own goals as the situation in campaign map develops.
Last time when I met the victory conditions in M2TW was when I played as Byzantines, but that was over 3 years ago and I didn't play with SS those days.

Never, i just conquer all for the glory of the empire!

Beside when im forced to long-term goals, i tend to rush it, so i set my own shorter term goals.

just for the sake of my own curiosity, if you don't play for victory conditions, what are your goals? for me, it's difficult to fathom playing this game without some sort of ultimate object in mind.

Stay far way from sandbox games, Asterix
I don't really need any specific goal to have fun. I do at times set goals, however, but they're usually something vague like "become a military superpower", or less vague like "take over the whole of the Baltic"
I haven't played TW in weeks, though. I've got other games to play, plus I find modding way more fun than playing the game itself. My playing of SS for the last month or two has mostly been limited to play-testing my sub-mods and Fixes, and tracking down reported bugs.

hmmm... i started a new h/h HRE game. perhaps my goal is now that i will make the map aesthetically pleasing. my goal is to take over Italy (minus rome) and the rough area of France and Germany. i think this'll look nice on the map. what do you think?

Maybe we should ask Meneth: "Are you modding the game to meet some victory conditions?"

I'm actually a bit surprised myself about the results. I would have predicted more in between responses.
What I don't like in victory conditions that often they put me against factions I don't want to fight. So I determine the victory conditions myself (defeat X, help X, take the Holy Land etc). I do a lot of roleplay so these conditions can change within the same campaign.

I usually play short campaign and in 6.3 or somewhere the short campaign goals were made more realistic for a actual short campaign. So in those cases I usually play to at least the short campaign goals and add maybe 1 or 2 of my own. 30 regions is about the max I'll capture as by then it becomes easy if you expanded in the right ways earlier even with BGR. Also the larger the empire the more of a chore it feels to fight every single battle.

In 6.1-2 I did long campaigns with Turks and Portugal but that is the only times I've gone past 50 regions as by then I'm usually bored. Both times rival super powers arose which still provided some challenge but it doesn't often happen.

Besides- with BGR on VH it often takes 150 turns to make a small power into 30 regions. In vanilla or even basic SS usually you can accomplish that in 50 turns.
