New HDD
My system is as follows
Processor Manufacturer: AMD
Processor Type: Athlon II 2 X 250
Motherboard : Gigabyte GA-MA770-UD3
Operating System Windows XP Pro SP3
SATA HDD 500GB C and D partitions
System RAM: 2Gb
Video Card Manufacturer: Nvidea
Video Card Model: Nvidea 8600 GT
Video Card RAM: 1GB
Video Card Driver Version: Latest Driver
Sound Realtek onboard Latest Driver
I have added a new SATA 1TB HDD no problems there the drive is seen by windows and accessible. One small thing the BIOS sees them both as Master which seems a bit strange but as i say its working and seen in windows.
What i want to do is to copy the C (Windows) partition the the new HDD and then use my old HDD as the D partition for data (removing the partition on the old 500GB HDD). Is there any free software that will let me do this i dont really want to pay $30 + for a programme i will maybe only use once or twice.

Re: New HDD
If you want the primary partition on the new HDD that is one with windows you can't transfer or copy it you have to install windows on it, after that the old HDD can act the secondary drive you can then take the data from D to the new drive (temporarily) and then delete the both partitions and format it to get a single partition and then transfer the Data back to it.
^All this can be done by windows itself you don't require any software for it.
