Hey guys, I'm looking for a new laptop for my pops, the only "high" requirement it should have is being to run Photoshop and Video Editing software reasonably well.
The cheaper the better, of course.

I vouch for the business laptops:
thinkpad T14
Dell E6410
HP probook 553(something)
or you can go for high end consumer notebooks:
Dell XPS 15 (ugly as hell but it should get the job done)
As far as GPU goes, you should get preferably Nvidia, either the FX (business series) or the usual GT line (consumer) avoid AMD unless its a FirePro (business) and if you can get your hands on a 6000 series (consumer, since it has A MUCH HIGHER CPGPU)

Would a good GPU really be that necessary?
edit:
How would this work?
Inspiron 15
Inspiron 15 Notebook (Inspiron N5030)
Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64-Bit
Intel® Pentium® Dual Core™ T4500 (2.3GHz/800MHz FSB/1MB cache)
15.6" High Definition (720p) LED TrueLife™ Display (1366x768) with Webcam
3GB Shared Dual Channel DDR3 at 1333MHz
320GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM)
Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator X4500HD
8X CD / DVD Burner (Dual Layer DVD+/-R Drive)

It will but you are better off buying a laptop that has like 2.3-2.5 i5 processor with integrated graphics that is without any dedicated graphics card.
3-3.5 GB of DDR3 RAM.
Resolution the same as posted 1366x768<-medium screen=Compact and light=That is laptop, No big ass sized screen makes it bulky to carry around then.
You can find this^ in a ACER laptop also which will be cheaper than Dell i suppose.![]()
On www.newegg.com you can find anything you want and you are an artist, PS user right? So you are gonna need an i5 bro Pentium D is not meant for this software it's heavy.![]()
Nah I'm getting it for my dad, he just likes messing around with videos and Photoshop, nothing on a professional level though just amateur, which is why I'm not too concerned about going more high-end.
if the worry is about the price (since for you to consider a inspiron from last year/begin of the year) you can always wait for a month and buy it. The new line of intel processors is going to be launched in early january, with that in mind you can:
1-get the latest tech
2-or get the ''old'' tech with a discount
but yes, those business laptops they have a good build quality, but they usually lack the GPU (usually a IGP)

this^^ is about a good price for one. you can buy the i3, since you're daddy appears to be not a pro and upgrade the ram yourself.
you could also try the vostro 3300 its fairly popular in Brazil due to its low cost, about the build quality I dont know.

Does it really need an i processor?
i3 is the cheapest of them all and yes it does as i doubt we can find a Pentium 4 laptop deal online.![]()
Yep if not going for those than C2D is fine but don't buy Pentium D, Win 7 is not XP.![]()
Do companies even sell Pentium D laptops...? lol.

Aye, I'm trying to keep the maximum price at $600 USD, so any upgrades will drive the cost up too much.
avoid SU processors at all costs... that was a m11x right?
the thing you need the most is the processor, that has to be powerful. if you can find a deal online, than go for c2d, if not, then the dv6 or some inspiron might do the trick, check some asus as well, the A series is what you are looking for.

Don't get such a pathetic CPU. At least 2.5 GHz at the lowest.
have you checked the other options I said? they are all budget laptops that revolve around the ballpark that you said

Aye, but they seem to be overpowered a bit don't they?
