Best Halberd faction (or things similar to it)?

So, I love Halberds, and things similar to it like those French Voulgiers and Danish Swordstaffs. So what's the best faction for this type of unit?

In terms of the unit itself?

And in terms of the unit and supporting units?

So which unit is the awesomest? And which faction has this type of unit and a great supporting roster. EX: I like Poland for this because, even though their Halberd Militia is cheap and not a very good unit, they have a lot of supporting units which make up for this.

Units by same name have the same stats and the stats don't change faction wise they remain constant.
And personally all halberd units in vanilla are underpowered and they suck imo. Better off using pike units.

Hard to say... most factions only have one or two halberd units, and a few has some special alternative unit (voulge-men, svärdstav-wielders), but I don´t think there is any faction that is really heavy on halberds and such.
If guessing, I would say Denmark, because they have the cool Swordstaff militia, Halberd militia + the Obudshaer later on.

I don´t know very much about this, because usually I only use a few Halberd units. And once the pike militia become more common I start using them, with halberds in supporting roles on the flanks.

If your looking for anti cav, then go for Scotland , they have Noble Pikes

Erm, no. I'm not looking for anti-cav. I know I can always turn to mighty and awesome SCOTLAND!!! for that. I don't know 'bout y'all, but I use Halberds against infantry. Am I doin' it wrong?

Halberds do work against havey infantry, under the right circumstances.
If you can get that to work effectively, you´re pretty good.
Still think there are easier ways to counter infantry (though it often depends on the situation)

Well, how exactly are you using them then?

Also, the Papal States have the excellent Swiss Guard halberdiers. You can find them in the Custom Campaign Mod 2, or by modding the files yourself.

Maybe a bit of a longshot, but the mod DLV features the faction Flanders, a faction that makes extensive use of what you seek.

Janissary Heavy Infantry are pretty beast.

In vanilla, the Turks' Janissaries are probably the best available halberd unit.

With some tweaking or a mod, the Papal Swiss Guard is the best.

I'm not sure if Pod Man is looking for a spearwall unit or just any halberdiers, because JHI can't form spearwall.

Janissaries? The dudes with ~16 armor-piercing attack? They're pretty badass.

I don't recall if they got nerfed in the later patches, but they were certainly the scourge of everything non-Turkish when I played as the Turks.

They suffer from the 2H bug, but I've found they are amazing at flanking.

Hmm ... JHI munched everything in their path in my Turkish campaign (M2TW Kingdoms Gold vanilla). DFK's made a good breakfast. They get my vote.

I find the Halberdiers in my Polish campaign good, if a fiddle, and they beat DFK and any cavalry. They behave similarly to pike men, i.e. slow march etc. Curiously they run at the same speed as other units if the spearwall is disabled. So I have them line up 4 or 6 across, with spearwall disabled (and guard mode disabled). I run them up to just in front of the enemy, and enable the spearwall. Then I click behind behind the enemy line (the DFK move away immediately if I actually target them). Up to now they have beaten whatever is in front of them - mainly DFK, Sword Staff militia, Norse axemen and cavalry. I'm interested to see how they perform against French dismounted noble knights, which should be coming up soon, as France has northern Italy and is very strong.

I think the HRE get the same halberd unit. I didn't pay any attention to the Turkish halberdiers because the JHI were easier to get and more effective.

I read about the 2H bug, but it doesn't seem to have affected my 2H units (unless they could perform even better). I thought the 1.2 patch fixed that bug ... though I haven't applied it since I was told it was already in the Gold edition. Feel free to enlighten me

JHI don't need to form stinking spearwall. Their badassness scares cavalry away.

Really liking Flanders in the DLV mod, however, I feel that the HRE is the best faction to use Halberd-type units simply because they have extremely good supporting units which makes it easier to win fights because there is an answer for every problem. I'll continue to experiment and make my final decision eventually.

Halberds suck in vanilla. Dismounted knights are better.
