Default Love the mod, but a few issues...

So I've been playing this mod for awhile, but I just recently deleted it. This was for several reasons, and now I'm considering reinstalling it, but I want to make sure that these issues are resolved... First, there is no intro movie, and as trivial as this actually is, a friend of mine has the exact same version of the mod, and he has the video. This leads me to believe there might be files missing from my install. Second, the mod keeps crashing if I click on too many items in the main menu. What's up with that? Is that another issue with the install? Third, the mod just doesn't seem to run very well at all. Vanilla Medieval II on high settings works just fine on my PC. I simply don't understand why Stainless Steel runs slowly on the campaign map and battle map! With Vanilla, I can easily scroll around the map or the battlefield with no trouble at all. In Stainless Steel, I find that it is very laggy (with fog of war on, as well). Fourth, and last, it takes 2-5 minutes for the AI to make moves in between turns. Is this just because of the high number of factions?

I'd really love to play this mod and would like to play it, but I'm not going to just sit there and pretend like these issues don't annoy me. Is there any recommended version of the mod that I should download? I just want one that runs well...

There are several SS mod versions. You need to state at least one for a helpful answer.

I was using 6.3, along with Meneth's Compendium. Maybe I should use an earlier version?

I think yout install is screwed up. I never got such issues with SS 6.3.

If some files are missing from it then reinstall the mod and then install it again by turning of the UAC if having windows vista or win 7.
UAC is a pain it doesn't allows to copy the files properly and they go in the virtual store folder instead. Make sure you have admin rights as well when running the installer and read the installation instructions and FAQ section it will help resolve the issue.

Movies have been turned off in default.cfg in the SS6.3 folder. You can turn it on from there.

Second, the mod keeps crashing if I click on too many items in the main menu. What's up with that?
That has actually been fixed in 6.3. Are you sure you're running 6.3?

Third, the mod just doesn't seem to run very well at all. Vanilla Medieval II on high settings works just fine on my PC. The campaign map uses more resources because the SS map is a lot bigger and a lot more detailed. In battles, SS has the unit detail set to "highest" by default. This stops the game from using sprites and lower detailed models as you zoom out. Change this setting in default.cfg to high and you should get an increase in performance.

Fourth, and last, it takes 2-5 minutes for the AI to make moves in between turns. Is this just because of the high number of factions?
Yes as well as the much much more detailed campaign script. The price to pay for having a much more detailed game experience. Meneth's fixes have a script optimization that should help. Also using submods like Byg's Grim Reality will increase your turn times.
