    Default Open Office Help

    So here I was, in the process of making a 50 question addition/subtraction sheet for an experiment for my AP Stats class, when IT occurred.

    I got to the 23rd problem, plugged in the random integers to the cell in question, and instead of getting [10-65] it turns into [10/01/1965]. I bricks. Anyways, despite my attempts I cannot find out what is causing this. Any chance someone knows what is causing this?

    You have the cell formatted as a date instead of as a number?

    As soon as I read that, I realized how simple the solution was.

    Damn, I feel stupid now

    EDIT: On second, glance, it would seem whenever I type in (1-12)-(1-31) a date results, it's easy to get past this if I change the numbers around, but is it possible to prevent the change to a date in the first place?

    First format the entire column as a number. Theres probably default setting someplace to do that, but not sure where it is in OpenOffice.

    I tried that after I read your first post, and it sort of worked, except there were a bunch of extra numbers.

    ie: 10-65 -> 10/1/1965 -> 1011965

    After which I just resorted to flipping them around. Is there some way to make it so that the format switch from numbers to dates doesn't occur?
