Default Mod compatibility with steam version of M2TW

So recently I've been interested in playing some of the great mods for M2TW but I don't have it installed on my gaming computer anymore. Now I do have the cd copies of M2TW and Kingdoms at home but I'm here at college with my gaming computer in another state and I'm considering just buying M2TW gold on steam for 10 bucks and then installing all the mods I want. However, as far as I know there have been some compatibility issues with mods and digital versions of the game in the past. Can anyone clarify if that's still the case? If it is I'll just simply pick up my cd's when I'm home for Christmas break.

There are still issues with steam as most of the SS6.3 players (one the best mod currently)cry about the pain steam gives them.
Best get the CD's if you don't wanna bother about the technicalities.

Gonna move this in the Technical help section so that you get proper feedback on it.

Yah I think I might just get the cd's when I'm home in two weeks, thanks for moving the thread to the right area though.

I looked around my hunch was right steam is just not worth it right now some mods are installer based and they simply don't launch giving the error medieval 2 not found because it's steam version and not mentioned in the program and features in the control panel as a dedicated program.

    Squid's gadget doesn't help here?

Yes good call gigantus but some installers don't work saying medieval 2 not found so first we have to somehow extract it manually using uniextract program(i think it will do a job) and then using Squid's gadget i think it edits the registry if my logic is right.

I think the problem lies in the way the registry entry for the position of the kingdoms\medieval2.exe file is done.

My installers all use the disk version of the game to look in the registry to find the correct folder, guess with Steam installations that might not work.
