For the time being, until I get the reworked patch done, download this file and put it in any campaign that you are playing (or all of them, if you wish). The changes to this file fix a few buggy triggers in the traits file that were causing CTD's.

thanks!
Is it save game compatible? Personally, I've yet to experience an after battle CTD, but I'm also running a custom liquid cooled system that would be best classified as reasonably "uber". That helps, no doubt. I also wait a minute or two after each battle as suggested. So far, even with multiple stacks I've yet to have a crash. That being said, I also don't want to get 100 years into my campaign and find out I should have applied this fix, lol. If it isn't save game compatible, I'd rather get the restart over with.
I confirm that it allowed me play with other factions, Arverni, though i haven't tryed others, and i haven't yet had a battle
I think it is, i've seen somewhere in other discusions
Thanks! Quick response![]()
THANK YOU! Now I can get back to killing those "over-nice Greeks!"
does the file fix the trait problem(after marian reforms) that several people have reported?
thanks for your hard work dear dvk901
thanks for the fix!
though my generals getting stars really fast now...just old vanilla times![]()
Ran into a strange after battle CTD...
I took over Carthago with a large unit Roman soldiers--it was an epic battle, btw.
When I depopulated the settlement, CRASH.
There goes my epic battle.

I attacked the settlement with one army; they had one army as well. I clicked on "depopulate settlement" and then I got a CTD.
I have had this happen to me as well...in RS1.6 and other mods. The issue involved here is very complicated, and has been theorized about by many respectable and intelligent modders. The problem is that there are too many variables involved to pin it all on just 'one thing'. One person says it's because you're not using the map_regions.tga created by the game and named 'corrected_regions.tga' after every map recreation. Another says it's because reinforcing armies have no way to escape. Others say it has to do with units that were allowed to escape, or just weren't killed, and they didn't escape, and so on. Still others pin part of the problem on the faction_creators of regions not being the same in descr_regions.txt and descr_strat.txt.
RS2 corrects all of these where possible (it uses the game generated map_regions, faction creators ARE the same, and every settlement has at least three escape routes. And yet, the CTD still occurs. So I'm inclined to believe that this may well be partly to do with these issues, but in the end is a flaw in the RTW code that has already occurred (or is occurring) as you are staring at the screen deciding whether to occupy, enslave, or de-populate the settlement. I've postulated that waiting a bit before choosing 'may' be an answer, but in the end, there really may be NO answer at all. My advice would be to save before a battle, and save again after it (even while you are staring at that screen). I've actually managed to get around that CTD by saving, letting it CTD, and then reloading the save and choosing something different. It's simply a game flaw that people need to be aware of and learn how to get around.
As far as the chages to the traits file...they are, as I said, a temporary fix until I can come up with something better. Generals may get stars faster now, but I won't guarantee that'll stay that way. I just wanted to get that thing fixed fast.![]()

I have noticed that most of the times I get CTDs this way:
1) I siege smth
2) AI comes with an army from outside and attacks my army
3) I fight both the outside army and the one inside the city at same time
3) I win, kill (almost) all the troops, at the end of the battle, I should capture the place. It has happened quite a lot...lost some good Heroic battles cause of it(last one 2 minutes ago vs Macedon )
The work-around I found is to always retreat first and lift the siege, get attacked once more while not sieging the castle and just destroy the army...but there's no gain at the end![]()
