So i waited for quite a while for this game to go down in price before buying it because of my experiance from ETW and id like to ask a few questions.

The Battle AI is shithouse and seems almost unchanged from ETW... What would be the best mod to fix this?

Does fire and advance/platoon firing work now? or is it still bugged? Are any of these bugs fixed at all?

How do i install a mod that is nothing but a pack file? just place in my NTW data folder and thats it?

Why are there very few people in the NTW forum compared to ETW? This tells me that this game is fail (i hope not).

    Thx

Fire and Advance is still pretty hard to make use of.
Platoon fire does not exist anymore in NTW (although I don't know what was broken about it in ETW).

I think you still have to add it into a scripts.txt file or something.

Darth boycotted NTW because of how ETW was i believe he said he would mod it when they gave tools for it ( tats what i recall but if you check his review of the game you can find out for yourself.

The mods are in the same place you would find mods in the ETW thread so ah there are plenty of people playing NTW but then alot of people stopped at ETW due to its flaws and many prefer the size of ETW.

There are mods that are movie pack files so need no script activation (not many mind you ) and by use of the pfm tool some mods can be converted to the style of mod but then that would be trickier for you than merely writting a line in the user script(which judging by your responses may be to hard for you alttogether it seems.

Universal AI mod is the best mod for AI i have found for both campaign and battle ( the battle AI seems better effected in campaign games though so dont test in custom battle or you will be disapointed.)

Yeah I downloaded U-AI as it seemed to have the best feedback havnt had time to test it much thow but it looks good.
This game just feels so fake and phony compared to Darth Mods ETW, i was looking at the MOD the rights of man but there doesnt seem to be much of a community behind it might give it a go anyone tried it?

I bought NTW and didn't play it for quite a while. Then I played it and I got hooked. Shares many of ETW's faults but is still the more classic wargame of the two. More stable and the battle AI is an improvement. The diplomacy is a vast improvement and much better graphics.

What lets the game down badly is still a very flawed naval campaign strategy.

However although fun ETW is a very silly game compared to NTW.

The things NTW misses out out on is Malta, the Moors and pirates.

The AI can be dangerous with ambushes.

NTW is much better than ETW, vanilla wise. But I can't beat DMUC.
But the good side of NTW modding is that you got some pretty decent mods that potrays the warfare of other periods precisely, such as TGW (a definite new taste for TW grognards) and Khartum.

The same way as ETW, put in the data directory, download the mod manager, select the mod and viola you can now play that mod.

I'm still deciding whether to buy Napoleon now that is has come down in price, but my experience with ETW was such a disappointment that I can't even bring myself to spend a lousy $35 for the Napoleon's Emperor's Edition.

Hi Muppet - I'm a huge fan of DMUC for ETW (I do some of the vids)...I wouldn't enjoy NTW vanilla, but, like ETW, the good mods really make it enjoyable. Ignore the amount of traffic in NTW forums compared to ETW. There are great uber mods, and some very creative small mods. While they may not overhaul the game like some of the big M2TW mods, they do make NTW a fun challenge for sure.

All In One...Order of War...Great War...EIC...you can't go wrong with any of these (and the many others), and they usually include the best of the mini mods that have realism, better uniforms, improved AI, better gfx. Or, mix and match the smaller mods (many are compatible with each other...these modders talk to each other alot here sharing ideas and finding ways for compatibility) to taste. I have my favourites to use, but that is mostly because I'm looking for video material. The only NTW version I can't stand is vanilla.

If you enjoy DMUC, you'll enjoy modded NTW just as much, IMHO...personally, I flip between the two depending on my mood.

There is a clear prejudice against vanilla by some people on these forums. Comments like 'I can't stand vanilla' are unwarranted since the mods only make small changes overall. This is even the case with DMUC and vanilla ETW. The mechanics, regions, factions, timeline and strengths and weaknesses are all the same. All that is done is some rebalancing and a whole lot more units that perform the same function as vanilla ones. Maybe a slight improvement in AI. But suddenly these changes make you love the modded version. There is not enough change to go from 'can't stand' to love. It is still the same game. Despite all CA's faults they are judged too harshly on these forums.

Agree to disagree. Devil is in the details...if you play any game over and over again, you'll find little things that bother you. If someone comes along with a fix for many of those little things, it feels like one big thing. It is not an indictment of CA...many of those little annoying things only come to light when the community plays a game over and over again.
