Virus in Explorer.exe?

Had a problem this evening with a computer, when it boots and gets to desktop it is all black, and while I can run some programs (firefox itunes etc) using taskmanager -> start new task and booting them from the exe. If I try to run any windows programmes it refuses stating 'there is a virus in this file' I've run a anti-virus scan which confirms this. Is there anything I can do other than re-install windows?

It's a system file other than windows repair you have no option use the disk and repair it but my advice will be to sweep the hard drive completely and then do a fresh install.
