Default I can't get it installed correctly via steam.

I installed it to my rome folder, changing the set place to install to within my steam apps/common/rometotalwargold,thats not it specifically btw.
And I changed the launch option to this " -modlay_Rome-nm -show-err"

    So why won't it work?
I thought this mod looked rather brilliant as well :/.

If no-one can help i will just resort to a torrent download because I am not spending another £10 on this game.

    EDIT:I managed it

Okay I guess I will be the one to attempt to solve the problem. First off please list you comp specs as well as if their are any specific error messages that appear when you attempt to launch. If the launcher on Steam is not working attempt to launch the game through the .bat files within the RTW folder as that should work.

Edit: Running RSII through Steam is a hassle but not impossible. Several Beta Testers have successfully ran the game through Steam and have imparted their knowledge to the rest of the team so that Steam users are able to enjoy the game as well. To run RSII on Steam, it involves adding some extra lines of code to your game library and a bit off a different installation.

First, make a folder on your desktop. Install RSII to that folder. Once that is done, drag or cut and past all the files in the folder to your C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\rome total war gold or whatever other version of RTW you may have.

For those who have Vista or Windows 7, the directory should be:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\rome total war gold or whatever other version of RTW you may have.

Once that is installed, open your steam launcher and browse to your game library. You should see RTW or BI or ALX depending on the version you have. For demonstration purposes, I am using Portal (the only steam game I have).

Right click on your RTW game and select Properties

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

You should be taken to a window like this, select Launch Options:

Once you have done that, type the following in the box like so:

Click OK - BE SURE TO INCLUDE THE SPACE before the "-mod"
This will allow you to play the ROMAN CAMPAIGN only. To play the OTHER campaigns, simply type in the other campaign names in place of Play_(campaign name here).

For simplicity's sake, I have enclosed ALL the campaigns that are available here in this post:

Or he could simply uninstall it off steam and then reinstall it. Once you buy it on steam you can install and uninstall it whenever you want....

yeah..and one day in the no so far away future steam and others decide that due to increased cost of file storage or whatever invented reason they will forward they have to charge a monthly fee for maintaining permanent install ability.......and what will you do then?...pay again and again
yeah yeah..the steam system is the perfect system to take away any rights from the customer and to be in 100% control...brilliant...you can not even sell your copy second hand which would be your right and the day your IT connection is down and you want to play a game you will throw your pc out of the window and remember my words........

btw ... if any of these platforms go bancrupt...(as they are companys they can do so )...you will loose all the games you paid for.

all online game platforms are but younger people dont understand how invasive this system really is.

online game platform is a scam...only a hardcopy put you in sort of control for a ware you paid money for.

Many games these days require steam regardless,no choice in the matter.

I am sorry I didn't reply, or someone from the team. I just figured someone who had Steam and had gone thru the process could help you. I don't have Steam...so I know zippo about it.

Just a thought about Steam and RTW.......RTW is an old game that will NEVER be updated again. Therefore, having RTW on Steam is really a load of crap, because the game companies are supposedly using Steam to more easily update their games. That's OK, but for a game that will never get an update, it seems a bit of a pain when the mere fact of HAVING the game thru Steam makes it more difficult to play mods. But anyway, glad you got it working.

Thanks also to 'AotxLoGiX' for the guide. I referenced it in the important things to read thread.

Now, I'm not condoning illegal behavior, but if you copy and paste the whole rome total war gold directory into a folder called The Creative Assembly in Program Files, then rename the rome total war gold folder inside to Rome - Total War, and replace the two exe files (RomeTW.exe and RomeTW - BI.exe) with fixed or cracked .exes of the same type, you can run the game without steam and you can install mods without changing the file directory of the mod installer. It is really the best way to make a mod work, even though it is illegal and you should never do it under any circumstances.

Yeah I don't get pirating an ancient, cheap game like Rome.Although thanks for the tip, my bro could use this, steam-o-phile that he is.

Actually, though RTW is a bit dumb to do this with, I did it with M2 and it worked beautifully. But, you should still never ever do anything illegal, because CRIME DOESN'T PAY!
