    Default Modding tools (I've looked!)

Hi. I looked thru the tools section, and i can't seem to find a simple editor that allows you to easily manipulate the export_descr_unit and building files.

I simply want to mod the amount of units available in a province, and/or change the growth rate, or change the population requirements for castles. the mod is great, i just find it a little slow, and starting in early era often all you seem to recruit is ... spear militia. ...

    plz help!

    Cheers!

I could be wrong (My sleeping schedule is now seven different timezones mixed together) but I think all you need is a simple text editor.
Even notepad will open text and xml files.

yes notepad will open it, but mistakes are very easy to make in notepad (correct number of spaces or whatever).

I played M2TW when it first came out and i am coming back to it now, i played stainless steel back then to.. in v.1.X days... but there was a simple editor that opened the file and displayed it like a spreadsheet and had headers that explained what each column of values did.

    Just can't find it anymore..

OH! I know exactly what you are talking about, I just forgot the name! Last time I reformated my computer I unfortunately lost it. Shame, but I will try and look it up for you as soon as I am ... home. yeah, home.

I think GeoMod (or something) might be able to do something like that, but I'm not sure.
I recommend Notepad++ for text-editing, though. Make some custom syntax highlighting, and typos are usually pretty easy to discover.

This. I use Notepad++ for modding, Python, HTML and plain text. It's very easy to use and has extremly good compability.

I can tell you it's not GeoMod, which is a (very usefull) mapping tool and got nothing to do with other code. Of much more help I can't be, I'm afraid. Did you also post this in the Mod Workshop? More modders are around there than here, probably.

Firstly ask modding related questions in Mod workshop only.

    Editing EDU aka Export_descr_unit.txt?

    Use EDU-matic

For EDB aka Export_descr_buildings.txt try EDB validator

This takes cares of that or the closet you can get personally i don't get why people bother with it as it's a simple text file and easy to learn. Anyways....

For this there is no tool as it really doesn't requires it.
Changing growth rate and population requirements for settlement the file would be descr_settlement_mechanics.xml.

    Yep that's pretty much it.
