    Default squeaky noise

Last night I started hearing a squeaky noise from my computer whenever I tried to use the hard drives. It's also running a lot slower, and a run of Norton Disk Doctor found errors on the C drive that it didn't give me the option to fix. On the other hand, I successfully backed up the computer with Acronis overnight.

Do you think this is a fan issue or a HD issue? I've got SpeedFan running and temps are normal. I initially thought HD, but if that's the case, why isn't it dead yet?

(For the record, I'm running a RAID 0 array. Yes, I know, bad idea, but I was much less knowledgeable when I set it up.)

Well the type of noise "Squeaky" can't really be told. But Hard Drives usually makes a humming sound and "click" sound when waked up from idle mode.

This is something you have to figure on your own open the case and check it out etc.

Check CPU temps, and task manger to see if any apps are running your CPU @100% and causing your CPU fan to run @100%, that could also explain the slowness. Viruses can cause the CPU to run @100% also.

Nice work on backing up, that is the thing most people fail to do when they suspect a problem.

Run a SMART test on your drive and find out if it truly has issues. http://hddscan.com/

    Thanks.

It did. I picked up a new one (WD Caviar Green) and it's now running as good as new. I thought about something better or two for a RAID 1, but the machine's 4.5 years old now and the HD I got is likely to outlive it anyway.

Caviar Green is a good and silent hard drive but it doesn't run on 7200 rpm all the time.
    Should have bought Black imo.

Sadly, the only Blacks I could find in any of the stores were the huge ones that cost $150 or more. The selection around here sucks. I would've liked a Black.

Edit: I wanted to deal with things quickly, so unfortunately I couldn't take advantage of the excellent deals at NewEgg.
