    Default Funnest Campaigns/Factions

Hello! First off, this a great mod. And I thank the Extended Realism team for working on it.

Anyways, for my first post on this forum I was wondering what some of your most enjoyable campaigns were. I usually find myself wanting to switch to another faction after expanding to a certain point. Mainly because I feel messy when my empire gets so big, and I don't like that. It's annoying but I can't help it.

So far, my favorite long-term campaigns have been Rome, Macedon, and the Sarmatians. There's a lot of interesting ways to expand with the Sarmatians. And there's not really any pressure early on. But winning with HAs is too easy. And playing as the Dacians, after taking over Illyria, I find just randomly raiding Greece's cities with no concern over keeping them can be pretty fun.

I skimmed through the first 5 pages of topics and didn't see a thread like this, but if there is one already then I apologize.

I'm glad you're enjoying it, and welcome to the boards!

I enjoy playing Greeks...try to do it with the different cities and route funds evenly to each of them. Makes it more challenging. Also, Armenia can be fun, especially if you don't rely heavily on HAs.

Besides the Roman campaign, which I'm a big fan of, I also enjoy the Macedonian and Pontic campaigns. I think it's because you're building up from practically nothing with them so it feels much more rewarding and satisfying as you build up.

Greeks and Germans. I like how those two armies work, though they are very different. Greece lets me build specific city-state armies too.

Also, both start the game sheltered and with few border provinces, covering their backs once expansion gets going. Having to watch too many borders is messy, and I don't like messy.

Turtle up as Britannia on the island, get an auto-turn script, "toggle_fow" and watch the yellow blob expand like rabbits on ectasy and viagra. It's actually a bit awesome.

    You are true!
On the other hand I like playing with Armenia (defending in mountains against seleucids and ptolys), and macedons because of the good position.

I quite like the Seleucids as I get to train big elephant units and send them around the world by boat. The funnest one was invading Britannia was my army of 7-experience troops complete with Hypaspistai, Silver Shield Phalanxes, and three units of Armoured Elephants. Huge battles!

I always love playing as Armenia. Respectable infantry coupled with Cataphracts = win. In fact... Cataphracts themselves = win

I like playing as the Iberians as well. Though they are quite difficult because the units are a bit underwhelming and even veteran units struggle against fresh Roman units.

    My favourite is Epirus, though

I had a great time as the Macedons a few months back, propping up Epirus against the Romans, sneaking around until the Greeks attacked me, and then I them. Slapping the Ptolemaics around for attacking me, Propping up the Seleucids against all their foes; Pontus, Armenia and Ptolemaics. Armenia is huuge now, lucky there is exactly a strip of one provinces between them and me in Kurdistan and Iraq. I am also now in the process of propping up the Dacians against the Sarmatians, and the Epirotes against the Illyrians. The Only faction which I could not reach, Carthage, has turned into Mordor. It has steamrolled both the Iberians and the Gauls, only the Gauls manage to hold Belgia and Armorica, and they also took Mediolanum. I do want the Romans to at least start the Marian reforms, so I accidentally got caught with my failed murder of a high ranking Carthaginian general, but am now deploying all fleets to blockade and starve Carthago. The greeks are still around, and an ally, but are reduced to Sicilia, and Croton and Tarantum. The sneakattacked Epirus when I wasn't looking, but are sort of deadlocked vs the Romans. I am the policemen in the Eastern med, but it is doubtful if I can project my naval power far enough to interdict any Carthaginian progress.

I really enjoy Macedon and Armenia, for both I like their positions 'cause you almost immediatly engulf yourself in wars and the micro managing at the start of the game. I like macedon for the phalanx and armenia for their lack of phalanx units nice to play with a faction who doesn't heavily rely on phalanx units, in the east.
