    Default WWII : Total War?

    Hello,

    I was wondering if technically it would be possible to create a WWII mod for RTW, or ETW or NTW?

    I know we can fire arquebuses and muskets already, so why not WWII rifles and machine guns?

    There would be no vehicles and no planes. Just big soldier battles, like Stalingrad or in vast plains. (or maybe we can add some basic Jeeps or slow vehicles?)

    Would this add anything to the TW experience?

    Of course I am just talking about custom battles, not campaign yet.

    For grenades we could use the alredy existing grenade throwers from Broken Crescent, and we have Flamethrowers too in Broken Crescent mod.

    I would be ready to help doing some unit research and tactics, and maybe some unit design for RTW.
    I could gather artiellry and rifle sounds too and Historical battles descriptions.

    yes off course it is possible.

    but you will need to have 20 max per unit

    and battles are alot smaller too

    you will have to move your soldiers consistenly unlike all total war games.

    If you're eager for the gameplay, you should maybe give Combat Mission Shock Force a try or Theatre of War 1/2.
    I doubt that you can make an RTW based campaign for those eras which would make sense in some way. Imagine
    only the diplomacy of RTW in times like that - a horrible scenario - once you border a faction you'll be enemy for them
    even if they were allied before.

    A friend of mine has said he'd love to see a mod based on WWI, maybe incorporating planes as air-strikes a la World In Conflict. I'm all for it, although how it would be made to retain the Total War feel is another matter. Hopefully it will be done sometime in the next couple of years.

    I'm sorry to break it to you but, this will not work unless you're really good modders with at least some university degree or knowledge. It will be very hard to incorporate land vehicles, and planes might be impossible, since there hasn't been a flying unit in TW yet...

    I wish you good luck, and may I advise you to make it on either RTW or M2TW

    As I said in my first post we could start with no vehicles (ground, naval, air) and just soldiers. Then we will find a way to mod moving vehicles (first ground , then naval, then maybe aerial but not mandatory).

    We should make Custome Battles and Historical Battles to start with. There have been many wide area engagements during WWII, similar in size to WWII and before, so this shouyld be ok. I am thinking about major battles in Russia where thousands of soldiers were mobilized.

    There is a mod for WWI.
    "Flying units" are possible apparently.

    But this would be better suited for E/NTW.
    Meh.

    WWII doesn't work on Total War engine unless you want Nazi stormtroopers and Allied troops firing at each other, all standing, firing in volleys as if they're in Napoleon era. There is no machine gun (well, technically you can do that with the scorpion but they can't be moved fast), no planes or bombing runs, tanks will act odd as you either make them always retreating from enemy closing in (the AI for any skirmisher) or fire once then try to run over soldiers instead of actually shooting (the AI for chariot or cavalry).

    If you're thinking about this concept you have to ask yourself "How do I make this BETTER than Company of Heroes?". If you can't, then what you got in the end will be just a bunch of WWII models on an incompatible engine.
