    Icon3 Hungarian's pros & cons

I would like to ask all of ur opinion of this faction's advantages & disadvantages early in the game.

    pros
    --adventuresome
--riches laid very near to the border (Constantinople), Antioch for crusading
--firmly in control of the the castles
    --not much enemies (unlike France)
    --horse archer advantages for maneuvering

    cons
    --Serious risk taking against Byzantine
    --Very Poor
--Produce lousy quality infantry at homeland.
    --HRE & Poland can back-stab u anytime.

Straight to the point the Hungs' could occupy Sofia as first target to overcome Byzantine.

Hungary has become one of my favorite factions.

    Pros:

Good military from horse archers to basilisk and serpentine, as well as decent infantry and archers.
Close to four non catholic factions, so you can expand away without fear of the Pope. Plus you're close to Antioch and Jerusalem.
Your Empire won't be too spread out if you decide to keep Egyptian lands after a crusade.

    Cons:

Lacking in heavy cavalry until later, and some factions have better offensive infantry and missile units.
You're close to two large empires, and HRE will be a thorn in your side because even if you beat it someone else will take its place on your western border.
You'll be one of the first factions to see the Mongols and Timurids in your main Empire.

    Pro's
    Great spot for religion
    Lots of expansion choices
    Fairly balanced roster

    Cons
    Surrounded by many different factions
Has few outstanding units, mostly average army
    A bit poor.

I the worst thing for Hungarians newbies had hard time to take advantage of horse archers' maneuvering power.

I had spent lot of time on horse archer in medieval 1 series on the turks, until i could defeat the byzantine by putting those tucoman horse at will.

Yep, with Hungary early game conquest/defense is cheap. Just use armies of 1 general plus 6-9 magyar cavalry (nothing else) that is enough.

    Pros:
    - horse archers and heavy horse archers
    - can expand into non-catholic lands (unlike HRE, Scotland, etc)
    - you can fight the mongols if you want, but they don't come for you (unlike Rus or Turks)
    - usually favoured by the pope (you will get high piety priests easily while converting balkans, it is common to have 5+ cardinals)
    - close enough to the Holy land

    Cons:
    - ugly colour
    - few starting provinces (there are worse, like Rus)
    - cr.p militia (pavese Xbow excluded)
    - unhistorical units (battlefield assasins? halberd peasants? slav levies?)
    - lack of strong spears/pikes and only feudal knights as heavy infantry

    I concur!
And it also incorporated things from Rusichi, Broken Crescent, Lithuania mod, so those factions (Kiev, Novgorod, cumans, Lithuania) play good too.

    Pros:
    Good Horse Archers!
Catholic nation, close to non-catholic lands
    good expansion possibilities
    Battlefield assassins
    Hussars
Damn good infantry later on (the dismounted chavalric knights can be trusted to hold a wall against anything!)

    Cons:
Poor starting economy - you must expand constantly in the beginning to keep up
    surrounded by expansionist backstabbers
close to "the action" (more of a neutral one, actually ^::^, but I donīt like starting that close to the Mongols)
    a tad unhistorical
    poor gundpowder (I think)
Heart of silver, Mind of gold
Fist of iron and Tongue to scold

    Proud to be a Viking!

I think that is the 'average' gunpowder lineup. What are missing are the handgunners, but those are not game-breaking anyway. They are cool and all, but I would take arquebus or pavese crossbow.

Spain, Portugal and Russia is stronger with muskets, but they are exceptions really.

As has been pointed out, their chief con is they are boring. Anything they can do, Russia or Poland also do, but better, and are more exciting campaigns. Hungary also has to suck up to one of its big neighbours for an uncomfortable amount of time, I prefer to come out guns blazing from the start and quickly establish a presence.

My experiences on vanilla with Hungary at VH/VH have been uninspiring. Either Venice and/or HRE decides to invade me, or the Byzantines will surge through from Sofia. The Polish and Russians are also aggressive, and you cannot befriend both.
