    Default Discussion on Brzezinski's 'The Grand Chessboard'

    without wishing to divert my other thread on 'imperialism', i want to discuss specifically US neo-imperialism in central asia.
    Let me quote from Brzezinski's opus:
    For America, the chief geopolitical prize is Eurasia…About 75 percent of the world’s people live in Eurasia…Eurasia accounts for about 60 percent of the world’s GNP and about three fourths of the world’s known energy resources
    your thoughts, please.

    PS Brzezinski is the guy who so famously wanted to give the soviets their own vietnaM;
    i fear that in wanting to go for the Heartland, he's given the US its 2nd vietnam

    You can't blame a country for its companies.

    He is self defeating by seeing the Chinese and the "Ulema" as natural allies.
    Imho they arent. Islam, which is spiritualistc and mixes in state affairs is totally contrary to Chinese traditions (who are, in a good sense, very very wordly), but then, USA stomping around may align the Chinese and the Moslems.

    USA does seem to pursuing a policy of encirclement: military bases encircle eurasia; USA exploiting independence movements on periphery of China/Russian Fed in apparent policy of dismantlement through attrition. PNAC certainly seemed to hold such a position, Full Spectrum Dominance, preventing a challenger even arising. Afghan and Iraq wars can be seen to make sense through such a perspective too (separating Eurasia from ME oil).

    Why wouldn't they be doing it?

    Well, lets not forget there are China, Russia, Iran and India that each has potention to keep US out of that land if any of two cooperate.

    Iran's already made gains in Iraq, and it looks likely that once we up and leave Afghanistan they will hold a lot of sway there as well. Pakistan seems to be becoming increasingly alienated from the West as well.
