when i install BI on top of RTW, does RTW need to be patched to 1.5 or does BI include patches 1.2, 1.3, and 1.5?

BI includes patches 1.3 for RTW, and 1.4 for BI. Your BI will work regardless as it is installs a brand new data folder. Your rtw *might get messed up if you already have 1.5, but I imagine installing 1.5 again would fix the problem.
In others words no it does not, you might have problems if you do.

What mods are you wanting to add... RTW mods or BI mods? I have RTR, SPQR and BI with Atilla's 4.0 mod all on one program. Just let me know what you want to add and I will help.
RTR 6.0-6.3 maybe, and maybe some other mods if someone suggests some that r really good

You should have a backup copy of RTW with 1.2 patch (I say 1.2 because sometimes the updated patches like v1.5 of RTW may interfere with previous released mods) somewhere on your hard drive.
This is what I did...
1. After you install BI with all patches, rename your back up file (i.e "Rome -Total War" to just "RTR" if you want that mod) copy the backup files and paste them in the "Activision" folder along with your other "Rome - Total War" folder. So you have two complete copies in the main folder.
2. Run RTR mod, just be sure it is targeted to the RTR copy you just made when you install.
3. I suggest SPQR v5.0 also, its pretty challenging. Just copy another backup named whatever you wish (SPQR) to the same main folder, so ther are 3 stand alone versions in the main folder. Same as above just target that mod to that particular folder when installing.
Works great for me I have no problems with any of my games interfering with one another.
IMPORTANT, when you want to play your mods you have to go into youe "Activision" folder into the mod you wish to play and open the game with the icons in their folders. Do not try to run the games from the desktop or the disk, it will confude the loading process and not know which game to run.
Any questions or problems, let me know.
