Could we not ransom a general after a battle back in the old days ?? I think that was changed in 6 or 6.1. or even before. Anyone know how to bring that back ?? maybe in descr_campaign_db ??

It's still there you just have to capture him not kill him when he is fleeing or is routing from the field.
Maybe it is not as easy as in vanilla (can't compare) but it is still possible.
Thanks Ishan for the fast reply. I do capture a General and get the give hime some wine !! but then the general always ends up dead after the battle. Was thinking maybe it was taken out at somepoint to keep the game harder!
I have captured generals, princes and leaders. A leader ransom is more than 10 000 florins.
Kill Them All, Let God Sort Them Out!
It is not that common, but enemy generals, heirs, and leaders can be captured. I've captured 3 or 4 (and had 1 or 2 of my own captured) in my Portuguese AAR in about 150 years. I would say that only about 1 out of 20 or so of enemy leaders are captured, vs. 19 killed in the battle.
Heirs fetch more than 7000 florins, but I've never captured a leader, so I can't say how much.
I'm playing 6.3.
I have captured commanders during battle - so the feature is still there although I think it might be a bit harder to do that without killing the enemy commander.
I dont remember exactly how it was during MTW - because what I'd like to see is that you could pay the ransom for your general, prince or leader seperatly from the rest of the army. So you can pay for your leader but leave the army to die - when you lack money or because they were cowards. Both sums are already shown seperatly.
But what I do remember is that there was a trait in MTW when a gneral has returned after being capured - it was "was captured"
Dont remember what it did - but I think that having been captured should have an effect on the person - it does not in SS 6.3
PS: I am a bit worried that this might be considered highjacking - but it is related to the topic IMHO
It can be quite difficult to capture FL or CP. They usually have lots of HP and tough bodyguards that die slow enough the unit morale rarely shatters. Only I've managed is when the enemy general suddenly tries to flee just as a charge hits in the back. Or maybe once or twice the general ran into some infantry in a complicated battle when routed. Usually they fight to the death though.

Thanks for the replies guys. My reason for the question was that I seem to be able to capture a General during the battle. (see Ishan"s first pick) I get the notice to offer some wine and let him watch the battle. But After the battle the General always ends up dead ! (see Ishan's scond pic) and I get the drop down notice saying the General is dead. Does anyone experience that ?
In fact rarely a general was killed if was captured in the western Europe. The ransom privilege remember?Of course not all have the taste of Timur in pets collection.
Ideea is if you capture him, you can have tons of money, money who are good always, plus the guy, pardon me if I am wrong will get a bad trait for that.
Kill Them All, Let God Sort Them Out!
Ok so I will directly answer to your question: No!
So far when I get the message "give him wine and let him watch" I capture them and they dont die after the battle. I was always able to ransom them.
So the trick is to make the bodyguard cav rout and then catch them with light cav. Then the general will stay alive. When the bodyguard is surrounded by your units and cant flee then he will most likely be killed.
Only time I had smth happen that was unsual was when I captured a family member and the leader at the same time in one battle. I was under the impression that bot got captured in the way mentioned above. But then I could only ransom the leader - not the family member. But I have to admit that he might have been killed, possible that I've overlooked that during the heat of battle.
Unless of course it is so that only the highest ranking officer can be ransomed. But is isn't like this is it?
Maybe you fought 2 enemy armies? You captured one leader, and the other is dead. And if the captured one was merely a captain, you will still get the wine message, but he won't be listed separately in the prisoners list after the battle. And for the real general you got a message that he was killed.
Optio, Legio I Latina
I think I managed to capture both the FH and FL once, then ransomed them back for 20k or so.
It's definitely possible to capture more than one general in a battle, but it's rare.
The max i have got from a Faction Leader is 14000 Florins and i think the ransom is somewhat connected to his stats.
Never captured the heir and leader together though, but have killed 4 family members containing both heir and leader in Edinburgh thereby destroying Scotland.![]()

I liked that film a lot. It amused me.
Anywho. I think it is rarer for me to capture in SS then in vanilla simply because... *drumroll* I am significantly better at the game, and thus kill most General Bodyguards quickly. Also has to do with captures based on them routing, and we all know what kind of moral boosts the AI gets at higher difficulties. Now that I am a VH/VH snob, I almost never see veteran GBs break.
I only saw that Orlando Bloom starred in that movie and by default had to be crap. :\
