Default Word Of Warning On Bridge Battles:

Never trust the bridge, especially with artillery. I ran some horse artillery across the bridge and when they got to the end they mysteriously just up and died. There was no enemy around, just a single unit of German Fusiliers on the other side of the map, and there were no stakes laid out or anything.

Just thought I'd get the warning out there if you ever wanna make the battle look cool by ferrying artillery over a bridge, expect them to die.

Its a bug that artillery sometimes randomly die, it has nothing to do with the bridge. Consider yourself lucky this is the first time you'v come across it.

Umm, then how about infantry units coming down from a fort wall and dropping dead the moment they step on the ground ?

I think it does have a connection with the bridge as the two times it happened to me, it was horse artilleries running on the bridge. It was in the first minutes of battle when I suddenly got the "unit has been annihilated" message.

    2 explanations:
    1: The Bridge is haunted.
2: Its a glitch or error by CA.

I personly think 1 is the most likely.

Why cross at the bridge anyway .. in my experience the ford is typically eaiser because of the ability to provide support fire from the sides ..

Before crossimng the bridge, arrange the battery in a narrow column formation - I found this to work properly after having shared your experience.

Another reason not to cross bridges is they are destructable.

Let me explain why this happen. There are 2 way artillery can be destroyed on bridge: moving up or down and touching bridge border.

    1) Bridge are made of stone or wood. In the movement_modifier table you can set slower multiplier for those terrain. What one need to do is also to set the terrain where the bridge connects to ground to a slower terrain so that when horses start to get that terrain modifier they are still slow and not get a sudden speed up boost. This of course applies to new map, for existing ones be sure to cross the bridge walking and not running becuase that may amplifies the problem especially for horse battery.

    2) No way to solve that: carefully move train in a column to be sure guns don't touch the bridge border angle when wheeling.
