Is it just me or since the 1.6 patch that CA put out I cannot preform night battles anymore with generals who have the trait. I have no mods installed, just playing vanilla BI as of now, I usually use Atilla's skins.

There is a new command line in the descr_strat file, which enables night battles. If you are using attilla's descr_strat file, you'll need to add the file. Look at the original descr_strat to find it - i don't remember it offhand. There is a thread around on it as well.
I think you'll need to delete the map.rwm file and restart the game in order to get the night battles back, even after you make the edit.
This seems to be quite a racist comment. The Guals did a lot more than "wonder around pillaging";
It's not as if they were a bunch of dirty, stinking, fatherless Huns.
The line is:

Exactly where does it go? I know that it goes in the bi desc_strat, but where in that file does it go?

Many thanks guys!!! I got the trait back. On to destruction!!!
Is there any kind of bonus to a night battle? Do those being attacked at night get some sort of morale penalty?
@Sylver
Not that I am aware of, the only advantage to a night battle is the obvious opposing reinforcements not being able to join in the fight, but when I attack I seem to win hands down. It would seem to be something hardcoded, don't know how it could be manipulated.
if u have genral with traits that give extra coomand at night as my genral for my allemari campgain at the moment is 3 stars but is a nightfighter so gets +1 command and can start night battles and gets another +2 command 4 the trait owl man also axebitten cause he is attackin so another +1

Night battles also give an enemy army that the general dosent have the night fighter trait a morale penelty. If an army is in a night battle and nearby generals have the trait they can be reinforcements.

As this is basically getting more technical I shall move it to the mod workshop.
From the pride and arrogance of the Romans nothing is sacred. But the vindictive gods are now at hand. On this spot we must either conquer, or die with glory (Boudiccas Speech, Tacitus, Annals, XIV, 35)

So if you have to add the line to the desc_strat file in BI, what is the line exactly and where does it go? If someone could tag the link for me it would be great because I cannot find the thread anywhere.
You need to put the "options bi" line into the desc_strat file. The top of your desc_strat file should look like this:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
; Custom campaign script generated by Romans Campaign Map Editor
campaign barbarian_invasion
options bi
playable
----------------------------------------------------------
This fixed the problem for me with the All factions, or RebelCommander mod making night battles not work.

It is very strange; this does not seem to work with me. Got Archer's Skymod and Attila Reloaded's Flagellum Dei, and changed my descr_strat (the one in ...\bi\data\world\maps\campaign\barbarian_invasion) to look like:
; Custom campaign script generated by Romans Campaign Map Editor
campaign barbarian_invasion
options bi
playable
huns
goths... and so on, and then, after start and end date:
marian_reforms_disabled
rebelling_characters_active
gladiator_uprising_disabled
night_battles_enabled
brigand_spawn_value 10
pirate_spawn_value 12
and I also tried to write "options_bi" instead of with a space as above (there are both variants in this here thread), but no luck. Generals occasionally geht the Night Fighter trait, but I never get the Night Battle option box. What gives? I deleted the map.rwm every time. Do I need to start a new campaign for it to work?
This is for RTW proper. It is a very good guide (as you have top change A LOT).Originally Posted by DimeBagHo
For BI, to sum it up in a nutshell:
1) Add options bi to the descr.strat.txt in ...\bi\data\world\maps\campaign\barbarian_invasion (the version with a space after "options" works. Whether the other does too, I don't know.)
2) Delete the map.rwm in ...\bi\data\world\maps\base
3) Start a new campaign. The changes will not affect a campaign that is already running - you will get the traits, but not the night battle option.
