    Default Instalation problem

    Hello,

I am having trouble installing this XGM. I have total war Gold and run it using windows 7. When I run the installer it makes it to the end and then says

    'Patch of pack.dat failed.'
    Select OK to continue anyways.

Whne I run the mod it doesn't make it to the menu. Any help would be appreciated. thankyou

I cannot find similar error messages reported on the forums. And when I google it, only your post comes up

Perhaps try the old "IT Support" answer - uninstall RTW and the mod and reinstall both. Sorry for such a lame response.

Patching pack.dat will fail if you have the wrong version of the file. That could be caused by a few different things: (1) You have the wrong version of RTW. Check this at the top right corner of the options screen. It should be 1.5, 1.6, or 1.9. (2) Some other mod has messed up your original files. (3) You installed to the wrong location, so the file couldn't be found at all.

For (1) and (3) you should have seen other warning messages, so (2) is most likely.

    DimeBagHo,

I have a Gold Edition which is supposed to include up to patch 1.6. As for mods the only one I have is RomaSurrectumII. I've been modding it but only the Rome campaign so I guess it never hit me that the original mod copied over original data. OK well given that what I am looking to do is add some units from XGM to RomaSurrectum for personal uese only but don't have a program that can view and/or edit DDS and CAS files. I thought a later version of photoshop did that I used when I was modding StainlessSteel from Medieval 2 but idk what version it was. anychance you know?

Roma Surrectum is not mod-foldered, you need a clean install for XGM. This means you'll need seperate installs to play them, I'm afraid.

If you like several mods (and have the HD-space) I suggest the following if you use win7.

Install RTW and patch up. Copy the entire RTW directory to a separate spot (I use c:\games\RTW). This can be used for mods that don't play with BI like EB and maybe RTR. Make a clean copy again before installing any non-modfoldered mods.
Install BI and patch again. Copy the new contents of RTW to another spot (I use c:\games\RTWBI). Use this for the excellent mod XGM (and maybe RS and others if you'd like).

This way you can mod without getting annoying messages about having to be admin, and you won't risk mods conflicting.
