The team have said that right now the Roman Reforms are based on dates, not situations (i.e. the Seleukids developing Cataphracts from fighting them). So Marian legions would be 107bc and Early Imperial would be 31bc? Maybe? No idea about the Polybian units though.
For the moment:
Polybian 209 BC
Marian 107 BC
Imperial reforms are not yet included.
Historically accurate, but an issue in the game. Itīs not very hard on very hard as spqr, so I have to conquer the ancient world with early hastati![]()
107 bc? So one would have to play 4 turns a year for 170 odd years to get to them? Thats 680 turns! I expect to have won long long before then.
Is that really the marian reform date?![]()
![]()
The current dates are only placeholder triggers for for first OB version(s). Future versions will have dynamic conditions for all reforms.
Think iīll have to be patient, and wait for further versions then!!! 680 turns is too much to wait!!!
Wouldn't it be possible to keep the reform dates as they are and just make the game much more difficult? When it's possible to conquer whole Europe with early Hastati then it won't be hard to conquer it with Legions....
So making the Legions or whatever available earlier in the game would not be that demanding anymore, would it?
What setting are you on? Try the vh/vh. And go after carthage, it's not easy.
Historically the Marian reform happened around 107 BC. I think moving the date is not the right solution....

a) a way to make the overall campaign harder. This will probably come with updating to a later patch, which improves the AI.
b) giving SPQR players an incentive to carry on playing, has Hastati and Rarorii (sp?) get a little boring after a while. Maybe you could experience a new unit early on, but not get to fully recruit them until the reforms.
I dunno, if you want to keep accuracy though, the reforms should probably stay at the same date. Unless you forget dates completely, and make other conditions in order to activate the reforms. Maybe something to do with the tech level in Rome, certain buildings, a certain general etc.
Candide fainted...
It does take a while to get to the reforms. In the meantime I suggest you go after the triumphs. They are very rewarding and hard to obtain. The Carthagian triumph is hard. Try conquer Carthage to start.
