Nobody likes the Byzantines!

Has anyone ever succeeded in making an alliance in grand campaign as Byzantium, especially with catholic nations? 'cause all 100% of my attempts get rejected.

In case anyone is wondering, my reputation is mixed, & I don't really have many thousands of florins to buy alliance(s).

Ally with your only Orthodox brethren, the Russians! Put everyone else through the grinder.

I think if you war with _any_ catholic, the pope will not like you.
If the pope doesn't like you it will drag down relation with all catholics.

In my experience it just takes time. Just start of with trade rights with the catholics if they do not accept alliances yet. Don't attack catholics and focus on the Turks during the first years. Check back on your Catholic neighbours every once in a while to see if they are more interested in an alliance once you've reconquered Asia Minor (modern day Turkey).
At least the Hungarians should be favourable to an alliance rather early, I often manage to ally with them in the first few turns, but the other catholic factions are not so eager to ally with you

I usually ally with the Pope when playing as the Byzantines

I usually KILL EVERYONE when playing as the Byzantines They're a huge faction, really, all you have to do is ally early on with the Hungarians&Russians, while kicking the Turks ass. Venice might declare war on you and on Hungary. Put these 2 suckers to fight one each other, until they are weak so yo can pwn them. In the rest of the capmiagn you'll be too OP to need any strategy. Rome can be a good city to pillage, and it will give you a big difficulty change, as you'll soon be at war with all those unwashed Western Europeans.

So alliances aren't really included in the Byzantines GC

I am curently palying as Byzantium Vanilla VH/VH and I have a strong alliance with Egypt. I am trying to obtain also an alliance with the Russians, but due to my bad reputation it is nearly impossible.

Im playing as Byzzies too and Sicily, Hungary, Venice, Russia are allies against me. Im in a total war now. All my navy is destroyed by my enemies but i have stopped their armies at Durazzo and Thessalonica. I got a strong economy cause i got all the islands and smyrna, nicaea. All I need is a strong navy now cause my enemies are blocking my ports right now.

I can get one fairly easily with most factions, though I am playing Stainless Steel if that makes any difference

You have a little chance for a long-term alliance if you marry off your princess to an another faction heir at the beginning of the game.

Ok, with the Byzantines you have to choose a side early on, and go all out to prove your comittment. Either you choose to befriend the muslims, or you choose to fight for the Catholics. Now obviously, if you choose to side with either of them, you should expect a backstab at some point, and I would suggest the Turks are more likely to be the ones to do it. But make sure you are very VERY nice to your western allies if you decide to go that way, particularly the Pope (get an alliance at pretty much all costs) in order to discourage and delay the inevitable Venetian onslaught.

I rarely waste my time with alliances when playing as the Byzantines.

Yeah, hungary. usually got to pay them, but that's what i do you i don't get attacked on two fronts

I may be wrong but when Dave Scarface made the KGCM he made it mroe difficult to get Alliances with factions that are not your religion, hence why you might be finding it difficult to get Alliances with the Western powers.
But on the plus side the Alliances in KGCM are almost rock solid, ive yet to be betrayed by my Allys in the KGCM which is far from my experience playing Vanilla which would do it with the flip of a switch.
