Dont know if its possible and i dont mod but it seems like a better button to replace. Personnaly I dont think that legions skirmish
this pretty old by now...skirmish button can not be used as the .exe string calls a different function which does not refer to the density of the formation or distance between soldiers..

Would like to know as well! I've been told this sub-mod does not work with 2.5BETA, hopefully there are plans to change that in the near future!

I installed this on my 2.5B but it will be a while before I have hamata legions available...

Unfortunately, either it seems this does not work with 2.5B, or I did something wrong with intallation of this submod.

I only have the tight and loose formations, and neither of them forms a shield wall:

the real shieldwall formation is only available with BI.exe and would replace testudo as the engine supports only one extra formation...
you have done everything right..when you push the button you see the legionaries entering a very tight formation..once enemys come into range they will forward their shields and form a shieldwall just as effective as the original one introduced with Bi.exe...call it a fake shieldwall but it works very well cause your cohorts can hardly be pushed back and are very resistant against penetration...very handy against barbarians and cavalry charges..well..its always handy when in defense...I use it only for the first line...it keeps very busy the enemy lines which gives you time to surround them

Think so? See, my testudo button is available, and I am using bi.exe.

But I assume you've tested this with 2.5 so it is perhaps something wrong with my setup, after all. Not that it is that difficult to install...

User interface is updated as I see the shield wall option. In the first page your shield wall actually was a shieldwall, so I am still confused (I often am ) whether this works as supposed to.

On this picture, the cohort in the left is in a testudo (obviously), while the unit on the right is on loose formation making it a shield wall. In addition they are hiding at this particular time. Is this how it should work?

On another note: What about the Wedge formation button in the battlepage2 -file, how is that activated

EDIT: Oh yes, they make the proper shield wall given the right situation! How cool is that! I can now verify this indeed works on the latest version

    Great work Chris!

Just downloaded this, works perfectly fine. It would be great if you could add Shieldwall and Testudo to Spartan Generals and Testudo to Spartan Hoplites (The two kinds of the them, the Promachoi and the normal ones.) .

This mod seems to not work with RS II 2.6. I ran this mod with no problems with 2.1 and 2.5.

    Here's the error I receive:

Hopefully something that can be fixed?

I can confirm that this wonderful mod dose not work whith RS 2,6. I whish i know how he did this, cant be that hard?? Any one know how to do this?? I have been checking the export_descr_unit file of both the RSII mod and this submod and the only differenc i can see is the stat on the units, and that cant be the difference between loos formation and shildwall, or is it??

Here's a small guide for changing yourself the file. I've originally tested it with triarii because I didn't reach the hamata legions yet and this should work for any unit in the game.
If you compare a unit in the original submod export_descr_unit.txt(blue) with one in the 2.6(red) one you'll get this:

    Code:
    type legio i germanica
    dictionary legio_i_germanica
    category infantry

If you compare the two lines you'll see only 2 differences and those two numbers dictate the distance between troops when issuing a loose formation command. When you have lower numbers the units get closer instead of dispersing and thus mimicking a shield wall. At least that's what I gathered.

Now, to only change the cohorts open the 2.6 file (after backing it up, of course) with Notepad or any other text editor and go to the replace command and in the first text box paste
    Code:
    1, 1.66, 2, 3.33, 5, square, testudo
Then in the second text box paste this

    Code:
    1, 1.66, 0.6, 1, 5, square, testudo
Now, if you keep pressing replace you should change all legions (polybian included) and triarii(who already have a separate shield wall ability). You may not want to do that. You just have to check the type line and make sure you replace it only if it is a numbered or praetorian legion. Manually check to make sure all legions have a modified formation line.

You could, of course, do everything manually with a text editor.

And for the lazy or not so technically inclined here's a download link: http://www.mediafire.com/view/o7attm...descr_unit.txt

You still need to install the original mod then overwrite with this file. That's only to get the new icon.

Hmm... I've now noticed that while looking in the files. The lines must differ with a space or two so the replace command doesn't pick up all the lines that need changing. This file should have everything edited properly: http://www.mediafire.com/view/gxw9c7...descr_unit.txt
