Medieval 2 camera stuttering when units clash

In Medieval 2, whenever melee units start to clash with one another, the games camera starts stuttering and it makes the battle very unplayable. However my FPS well clocks over 60. Has anyone else suffered a problem like this? Does anybody know a fix?

If anyone was wondering, my setup goes as

i7 920 2.66ghz
GTX 295
2GB RAM

I have tried doing some tweaking in the Nvidia CP, such as forcing Single GPU, AFR 1 and 2. It seems that single and AFR 2 help ease the stutter, but don't rid it completely. I have tried doing things such as setting shadows off, as well as grass..but I know my computer should run this game without a hitch really.

Wow thanks, I never thought of trying that. I must say that almost of the stutter has been cured and the game is much more enjoyable. I think a nice defrag should handle the rest. Thanks for your help!

An update actually, I just discovered that muting the sound ingame made the game stop stuttering completely. I didnt expect it to be the anwser. However playing without sound cripples the game and mabye there is a way we can figure out how to fix this issue? Also, the sounds makes little pops when im close down to units ingame so all these problems must be related to the sound.

What kind of sound card/chip?

Hmm, according to device manager it says "High Definition Audio Device" so id maybe guess that its integrated. The motherboard i have is DX58so if that helps.

It has seemed not to help at all, the stuttering while sound enabled is still there. Also, the game lists the sound as "Miles 2D positional Audio"

Default setting. So is mine and I have a RealTek chip.

There maybe a driver download you need for the RealTek codecs

I have both. I do not notice any audio issues with neither of them.

Okay, let's try something. Move the mss32.dll from the Medieval2 folder to your desktop to keep it safe. Now copy/paste the one from Empire into your Medieval2 folder. You may have to reboot to see if it works or not.

Alright, I must reinstall ETW again and I will get back to you with the results.

This did not help. The game cannot run with the replaced dll and procures an error message.

Can you start Empire without any problems?

If I take mss32.dll out of empire, it will tell me it is missing and will not run.
