    Default This is madness!

I have RTWG bought through steam (I run Windows 7) and it's patched to it's latest 1.5 verson. Downloaded the Roma Surrectum II mod hoping to paly it and of course I've had nothing but fail. I've tried it all, with taking RTW folder out of Programs folder (x86), putting it on user folder and then installing mod. Once install is done I put RTW folder back in programs folder (x86) steam folder, click on either steam to start game or RSll icon to get mod launcher. Once I have everything picked I click on play "Roma Surrectum ll" and get the following error:

    data/animations/SG 01 idle 01.cas

So what's the deal? Is all the trouble because I go through Steam? I have downloaded and used the excellent SPQR mod and it ran great from the start despite having to go through steam, why is RS ll so much different?

Any help would be appreciated, as I know other people had to have had the same problem as me.

Two things. Don't post it here, this should be in the technical support forum. Secondly never ever have your RS in any of the Program files folders.
Place it directly on you C/ disk instead.

I will move this thread to it's rightful forum now. Make sure to read the stickies.

It is good to install the game onto D: also it is good to install the mod to a folder on your desktop and then copy and paste the files into the Rome folder.

Oh and check this thread, http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=386590

To go with the above message, I recommend re-downloading RTW to elsewhere on the C drive, and then re-downloading RS II and applying that, to avoid any possible mishaps.

EDIT: Smokey's message is good too, you might try that one first.

Well i posted the same thing in the tech support forum and no one responded. My question is how can I install RTW to a different folder if my steam folder is in Program Files (x86). Everytime I download the game it automatically is sent to my steam folder. Completely uninstall my steam folder then when reinstalling it, direct it to my user folder which is outside my Program Files (x86) folder?

Yeah the best way is to install your steam to another folder. As I said above do it directly onto the C/ disk and not in any sub folder.
Also make sure to read the "how to install RS 2 with steam" part in the release thread very carefully.
I can promisee you that you will get it to work if you do that.

So C:/user folder would be ok?

I advise to create a new folder on either D or C, call it something like games, and install steam to it. Then follow the instructions in the installation thread under Using RSII with steam but making sure you put everything in the right place (the rome folder in where ever you ahve stored steam.)

Oh and make sure you move your SteamApps folder to the desktop before moving/re-installing steam, then copy it back in after and overwrite whenever it asks you.

You don't HAVE to do this but it will save you alot of problems now and in the future.

Its a steam game, as far as I know you can't choose where it installs the game. It will always install it to the steamapps directory.

Yes I know. That why I said that he should install steam to another place before installing RS 2.

Ok, still not working. Here is what I did,

    1. Uninstalled games in steam and then uninstalled steam itself.
    2. Checked in regedit and program files (x86) for any left over steam files.
    3. Reinstalled steam and dircted it to C:/Games folder
    4. Downloaded RTW.
    5. RS ll mod install was in seperate folder located on desktop. I right clicked on it, choose administrator rights and directed it's install to C:/Games/steamapps/common/rome total wat gold.
    6. Tried to play game via both clicking on RS ll desktop Icon and through steam with the following results,

The RS ll spalsh skin would pop up and freeze. I would also hear that stupid ding sound. I would than get the following errors,

Script error in data/descr_skeleton.txt, at line 56, column 133

    and

Anim DB: Could not load - 'data/animations/SG 01 idle 01.cas'

Where is the problem occurring? In the steam rome total war gold properties-general tab there is set launch options. Do I need to put something in there?

    Regards...

Gottberg, I'm feeling your pain here brother. I've tried and tried but still get the exact same error message as yourself.

Not sure what the deal is, I have RTW (SPQR), MTW (Stainless Steel 6.3), and ETW (Darthmod Ultimate Comm edition) all bought through steam and all modded and have had no problems at all. Why RS ll has to be such a ball buster is beyond me, especially seeing as how popular it is. I'm betting at least half of the RTW posters bought the game through steam so they should be having problems too.

Oh well, I guess it's back to SPQR.

    Hmmm, maybe this is the problem. I saw this in a post;

    3. Now, install the RS2 mod to a new folder, created on the desktop. Mine is named Roma Surrectum 2.
    4. When the mod has been completely installed, copy and paste the entire contents of the Roma Surrectum 2 folder, located on your desktop, to your freshly installed RTW game. folder.

so I'm thinking this may be where the hang up is. I just downloaded the mod to a folder, clicked the exe, and directed it to the RTW folder. I didn't install the mod to a seperate folder, and then copy and paste the entire contents of the RS 2 folder to my RTW game folder.

I'm at work now and anxious to get home and try this out.
