Oh So Annoying Problem!

okay so i bought the Total War battle pack from Best Buy the other day and RTW installed perfectly and plays perfectly... then i decided to trey Medieval II with kingdoms my computer wont recognize the discs at all... so i tried it on my laptop it installed fine and played fine, which let me know it wasn't the disc... so i decide to use my external hard drive to move medieval II and kingdoms over to the other computer i added everything manually in regedit.. and tried to play without the disc... still no luck the game opens for a sec with a loading screen then crashes with no error then i tried to update the game to patch 1.5 but its saying the games not installed on the computer... I'm stumped and have no clue what to do next can someone please help me? and why wont my PC read the discs.

No there isn't a way to play without the discs. What brand of DVD-ROM do you have in that system? Have you looked for updates for it?

Some newer DVD-ROMs have trouble reading the old M2 discs. Some have had success by finding a firmware update for their drives from the manufacturer. Have you tried looking for one?

Well irishron gave you the manual install method. The problem for you is that you'd need another system to copy the files to and move them with a flash drive which could be a pain. But at this time it seems like you really have no other option.

Thanks for that. It looks like that model DVD-ROM has a firmware update available for it. Here is a forum board discussing it: http://forum.lgsoftwareinnovations.c...p?t-21990.html

There is a link given in that forum but you may be better served going directly to the LG site instead and doing a search there. I'm not 100% sure but I'm betting that your drive is having a problem with the format of those discs - I've seen that problem before on this site and the firmware update usually solves the problem. Good luck!

EDIT: Your model is HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GSA-H55N ATA Device - just in case.

What are the differences in programs between your laptop and desktop? Whaat differences are there between games, utilities, browsers, etc.?

What do you have against Vista SP2?

nothing against Vista at all I'd just rather play it on this computer than my laptop.

Thanks! But that problem and this one are different in that we're not even getting the drives to read. That link shows that the game was installed but was crashing after trying to play. I'm not sure the two can be linked as you suspected Nero at the time. I don't see Nero on this OP - unless I'm going blind which is entirely possible.

i did the firmware... and it just has the little icon of the mouse and a disc next to it the whole time trying to read the disc but in the end it just fails
