    Icon14 Step-By-Step Steam Install + Troubleshooting

I believe I have found the simplest way to install Third Age Total War without modifying vanilla folders or screwing around manually editing Registry settings. Here's a step-by-step for how to install this mod on Steam:

    1) Download part 1 of the latest full version. As of now, that's version 2.0.

    2) Install the file, but make sure to change the directory during the installation:

    64-bit Windows Users:
From - C:\Program Files (x86)\SEGA\Medieval II Total War
To - C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\medieval ii total war

    32-bit Windows Users:
    From - C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War
    To - C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\medieval ii total war

    3) Follow the same steps with part 2. Don't forget to change the installation path like you did in Step 2.

    4) Install any incremental patches. As of this writing, the only current incremental patch is patch 2.1. Don't forget to change the installation path like you did in Step 2.

    5) Download the Kingdoms Launcher App designed by Squid. This program modifies the existing Steam launcher for the game and allows us to add in Third Age as an option to the Play button.

    6) Run the Kingdoms Launcher App. Click File--> New Mod and use these details:

    7) Run Kingdoms from within Steam. You should see this when you click the Play button:

    8) Click the mod on the list and start playing

    Troubleshooting:

I installed the mod, but there is no Third_Age subfolder in medieval ii total war/mods!
You probably installed the mod to it's default location path instead of to the Steam directory. See Step 2.

I've gotten the game working, but parts of the GUI are white!
    Download and install Patch 2.1

Wanted to reply and say that I believe this is the best method for a Steam installation - things are working perfectly.

There is also this tool here which I designed to take out all the manual work. Just pick your mod, submit, and you are on your way. Be sure to run it as admin since it needs to write to the registry.

Would it be wrong if I necromance this thread so that the Steam users can look at it?

Well ran into a problem with steam following the directions. Game shows up along with the Kingdoms campaigns, click on Third Age and I get the main load screen for TATW for a few seconds and then it closes out. Sound is still there but games never comes back. Nothing in the task mgr that shows the game is running but theres still sound. Uninstalled everything and redownloading the steam games and will retry.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

I think I might just give up on this. I had Kingdoms Direct 2 Drive before and it worked, Gamefly bought them out and you have to use the gamefly client and couldn't get TATW to work with the Client. Ordered the Gold Edition download from Amazon, couldn't get TATW to work with that either. Seen this thread and looked easy enough so I bought MTW and Kingdoms and having problems with that too.

Wait, I'm confused. What copy do you have, Amazon download, retail disc copy, Steam? Do you have gold edition or not? What operating system are you running? Windows 7 or Vista?

I have Steam copy right now, in the process of redownloading them on to Steam libary. Not Gold Edition, bought each one separate. Running Windows 7 64bit.

Perhapse our friend in trouble should disable UAC too before installing TATW.

Look here and apply Step 3 from HOW TO FIX IT section.

Must had something missing in the first download. Redownloaded and follow install directions and works fine now.

Does UAC affect Steam versions of the game?

Hello there and welcome to TWC Forums!

What do you mean by creating folders? What part of instructions is the problem?
