Default How long do your turns last?

Hello friendly forum folk. I've been a lurker here and on other total war forums for years, but I finally felt compelled to ask a... compelling, question.

How long does your average turn take?

I read a lot of stories from people explaining massive campaigns, lists of actions that go on and on and on. "Yeah, right about turn 300 is when it got really interesting." Meanwhile, I'm sitting back thinking, turn 300? With the amount of time I have to play I feel acomplished getting to like 75 or 100.

So yeah, how long does your average turn last? How long does it take you all to get to such large numbers?

    A long time...

(I mostly never get there due to the fact that I cant pick a faction and stay with it lol.)

it depends on how long I want to stare at the little caravans on the roads.

    For me, it depends.
Alot of elements has to be considered as well as how well the booze is kicking in and since I don't feel like going into details, let's say it takes 5-6 mins average before I hit the button for the next turn. Not counting battles, of course.

I like to micro-manage all my settlements and I never auto-resolve battles, so an average turn without a battle takes about 5 minutes. With battles maybe half an hour or longer. But I usually get bored after about 100 turns and find myself starting with a new faction. I am yet to complete a campaign in tatw.

Same here Scorpius. I always end up getting far with a faction then move on. Only ones I completed were Gondor and Arnor, because Arnor was like a whole new faction and I went on a jolly ole crusade in Umbar and Harad. I have an extensive colonial empire. And Gondor I tried to follow Aragorns footsteps and conquer the whole world. And the fellowship campaign but if you start that, you have to finish it. Anyways turns for me depend on how far along I am and how many provinces I have. Or if I'm in the middle of a war. If it's the beginning, then my turns are usually short, just waiting for buildings to level up in my few cities. If I'm fighting a war, the front is usually fairly busy wih battles (lots of enemy stacks) and the rest is busy building troops to reinforce the war zone, then move on and conquer the faction I'm fighting. So it all depends. But an average of about 7 minutes probably, not including battles.

Heavily depends on ingame situation... in the start, i'll take a couple of minutes, in late game about 5-6.
It's only after you have lost everything, that you are free to do anything.

    same here, that's normal

managing 1 city takes less time then managing half of middle earth.

Maybe just because I haven't played enough to know the opening turns by wrote, but my turns are the opposite. The first few turns I'm examining every city, every unit, every general and trying to think 10 turns ahead and co-ordinate the movements of all my soldiers to take advantage early on and get the optimum setup. I can spend 20 minutes a turn in the opening just planning what to build where and which units to march to which locations with which general. Once I get to turn 20ish everything is pretty much in place, I know what my plan is for each unit and each city, and things go a lot faster. The only surprises being if I lose a battle I was really thinking I'd win, or if a rogue stack shows up somewhere I wasn't expecting.

Of course I always have to play out my battles (unless I have overwhelming advantage), so that can add 30 mins or more to a turn.

At some point I always get the attitude of "well, I know how this is ultimately going to end now. Do I really want to play out the next 200 turns just to see?". Answer: no. Ok then, time to start over again as a new faction.

I always seem to get tired of a faction around turn 50 or so.

Yeah when I accidentally deleted my save file just now I don't seem to be worried and it was using the High Elves on turn 83.

Generally for the first 80 to 140ish turns I mostly decide battles by auto resolve to save time. During the first 100 turns my average time per turn takes 2 to 3 minutes at the most, as all I concentrate on is developing my economy and protecting a few territories. After turn 150 I switch to major military operations and start my expansion and army building.

Generally this tactic only works on H/H and to an extent on VH/H or H/VH but not VH/VH because the auto resolve typically causes you to lose too many battles.

I like doing M/VH or H/VH myself because it allows me to dick around, while still being able to fight difficult AI later on in the game

Also, lastly I'm a little cheater because my kings purse is set to 10,000 gold a turn and my starting gold is typically at 25 or 30k to give me a little boost because I leave the AI money and army scripts active.

Wow!!! I have never made it that far. I generally play the Elves or dwarves but I always have a lot of battles each turn, as I am the self appointed savior of Middle Earth. My armies are so far from anything resembling my territory that upkeep costs me a fortune in reinforcing my armies. I just don't see the Elves as conquerers. So building programs take about 30 seconds. Planning marches and the most efficient way to get to the next couple of enemy stacks can take awhile depending on how many brain cells are functioning.

WHen it takes too much time to end a turn the games gets kind of boring. I dont like when I have to fight 3 or 4 battles per turn.

Honestly compared to some of the other mods I play, my turns here do not take very long, because there is less to do. Though just looking at the map is a pleasure, which is not as true about other pre-ETW mods anymore for me.

In BC I may spend 30 minutes strategising over that vast map, moving merchants, positioning spies, wooing princes with a lady or trying to kill them with a hashishan. There is a lot to consider, historically and with building the right infrastructure to get the kind of units you want too.

In APE:TI for ETW I could just scroll around that incredible 3d map for an hour (which is at least 3 times the size of TATW's) listening to the local floura and fauna and moving my ships around. But I get less satisfaction from the time frame and style of warfare.

This is an excellent mod, and the custom locations really shine (love "reaching" them too!) but there is just much less to do on the map in the current version.
