The director has said that it was meant to be a joke, but this came after the movie became semi-famous for being incredibly terrible. The cast of the movie says that the director meant it to be serious. A friend of mine said they showed the movie at a theater close and when people started laughing out loud at the ridiculousness the director, who was there, began screaming Shakespeare, supposedly in an effort to show himself off as a "deep" and serious guy. It's assumed he was also wasted.

I have to link to the Nostalgia Critic review of the Room. This review really pissed Tommy Waiseu (the director and main actor off), he actually had them take the video off the site for a while, but it's back so we can all enjoy this wonderful movie -

Two things you should notice about The Room: 1) Tommy Waiseu "cottage cheese" ass. 2) For some reason the dudes in the movie like to throw the football around randomly. And by "throw the football around" I mean having the worst throwing the football around you've ever seen.
