Default The Three Amigos - Roman Clibinarii

As part of the roman army revamp I have redone the clibinarii units. Here is an example of three of them. Introducing the Three Amigos.

The cataphract horse model and textures are courtesy of the RSII team and tone in particular.
The cataphract riders are based on models by Ramon with skins textures using a combination of Ramon, Razor and leif_erikson textures
All equipment including helmets made by Razor.

Scholae Clibanarii Palatinae: One of the seven "schools" of horse stationed at Constantinople and in service to the Emperor.

Equites Promoti Clibinarii: This unit is listed under the Notitia Dignitatum serving in the Army of the Orient

Equites Clibinarii Palmyran: The Equites Clibinarii Palmyran are a Palatina unit listed under the Orientum army. It is assumed that this unit was originally recruited from Palmyra, after Aurelian's victory over Palmyra.

All three units use a variation of the spangehelm helmet and have a combination of mail and scale armour. None have shields.

Well, it is meant to be a mace. Only the Clibinarii Palmyra use it. The others use a sword.

They are only available in the eastern part of the empire.

Yes, as mentioned in the first post, the cataphract horse models and skins are courtesy of the RSII team.

Not to be picky, but any chance of them having bow cases and a quiver? Julian states that during one battle the Clibanarii supported a cavalry attack by showering the enemy with arrows before charging in, indicating that they must have been dual-armed with lance and bow.

Only early and very late savaran did it, but the middle, uber-heavy clibinarii phase, no, they didn't. The roman above-normal-heavy cav copied persian cav, so it answers your question.

So you do not believe Ammianus descriptions of battles against the Sasanids mentions the Sasanid Clibanarii shooting arrows?

And surely the description by Julian of the Battle of Mursa, 350AD, where the Late Roman Clibanarii under the command of Constantius II supported the Equites cavalry by showering their opponents with arrows qualifies them as being dual armed?

Where is the evidence that Sasanid Clibanarii did not carry bows?

Will there will be a equites persae unit which being of persian origin could be armed with lance and bow but the rest I'm afraid not.

it may have been only one instance....it doesn't automatically mean they always used bow.

While agree, with your bow/lance argument, they would also have sword or mace, but game mechanics does not allow this. It is the same for sword /spear front line infantry, just can't represent it. But also I'm not entirely sure if the sources truly differentiate between Kataphraktoi and Clibanarii, I think its the writers times ,places and origins and what they hear, and from whom and where etc
