    Default Would this make a good gaming PC?

    Just flitting about the web looking for something that would give me good graphics etc

    Acer Aspire M3900 - Desktop Media Centre (DT6594)

    * Core i3-540 CPU
    * 3.06GHz, 4MB Cache, 1333FSB CPU
    * 4GB DDR3 RAM
    * 1TB 5400rpm Hard Drive
    * Multi-Card Reader
    * DVD Supermulti SATA
    * Rear Firewire
    * Windows 7 Home Premium (32-bit)
    * W 180mm X H 379mm X D 401.8mm
    Mainly I'd like to play fairly recent games on high graphic settings.

    Looking to rent instead of own? That system isn't bad but it's not the best when it comes to gaming (especially at $20 AUD a month). If I'm correct in looking at the link you didn't post then that system uses onboard graphics - that won't be your best bet.

    Look more towards an i5 that you can overclock for gaming or possibly an i7. It really depends on the budget you have. If you give us that first I'm more than sure some of the more savvy here would be more than willing to jump out and tell you what to buy.

    In simple words not good.
    You need a dedicated graphics card like GTX 460 for eg to play games without .

    Hmmm, okay then that's a dud.

    Budget? About $2000 AUD in one hit.

    Thing is I wouldn't know how to put one together, so I'd need the whole thing in one pretty much.

    Apologies for my complete ignorance on these matters, but I'm old.

    Budget: 1, 2.

    Sweet Spot: 1, 2, 3.

    Performance: 1.

    All ready made. There are also stores that allow you to pick your parts and charge you an assembly fee so they can put it together. PC Case Gear came to mind because I just got some items from that place today. One of my Hard Drives is starting to act up, it's an old Seagate so I bought a new Spinpoint F3 (was on "sale") to replace it.

    Hmmm thanks Mr.Crusty!

    So the "AMD Radeon HD6870 Crossfire SSD System" would be kick-arse enough to play most games on high graphical settings?

    I didn't know about these people; looks like I could get one delivered in a short period of time too.

    Don't tempt me into going 3d Phier, I don't need another excuse to buy stuff for my computer during the Christmas season.

    No worries boof.

    And short answer is yes.

    You'd probably need a setup like this to see big slow down:

    Anything on a single monitor regardless of resolution, or probably even 3 monitors in Eyefinity will be tamed by two 6870s in CrossFire.

    Don't know how. They didn't even have computer related anything when I was at school. Oh, a math's teacher brought in a Commodore 64 once with a greenscreen and a crappy flight simulator....

    Ah, the Commodore... I wasn't even alive when those came out, lol.

    Anyways, yeah, the 6870 crossfire will totally own any game out there. Looks like the guys here have you set up pretty well, not that hard with such a huge budget

    My dad was already out of university before the commodore 64 hit the market and he knows how to put a pc together. Being old isn't an excuse for not knowing how to put together a computer.

    P.S $2000 AUD will get you a high end gaming PC easy.

    I learned to put together my own when I was about 27. Do it once and lose the fear of the insides of your PC.

    sorry for the bump

    Mr.Crusty the links you gave have died, and I can't get the AMD Radeon HD6870 Crossfire SSD System up on that site - did you have to ''assemble'' it there yourself?

    I just was going to pay for it tonight and...well...it's gone! I can't find the exact same one by googling in Aus either for some reason.

    Crusty could you take a look for me?

    PM'd you. I can't find the damned thing!
