    Default little preview of portraits

Good evening all, thought I would upload a few portraits for DOTS and see what you think of them, hopefully they will make the game feel more immersive and enjoyable There are also a few little easter egg suprises for one or two cultures but the chances of getting them are quite small

Its only a small selection and these are the .JPG copies which have not been resized

edit: dammit I should have put this in the specifically and clearly labelled previews section or perhaps even the thread dedicated to portraits. sorry for the inconvienence

I reckon there would be a significant break in immersion when a member of my family becomes the instantly recognizable Albrecht Dürer, or Cesare Borgia, etc...

Would having thirty Albrecht Dürers make you feel better?

Considering the game is 4 years old+, and that were in these forums to download mods that improve and garner more realism... I am sure most of us do enjoy history . And I'm sure most of us just might recognize those pictures

    Agreed,
    They are pretty nice though.
It gives me the feeling of actually playing in medieval times. It is stranges that most of the paintings are from late medieval or early renaissance times. Considering the time frame of the mod, but on the other hand early medieval paintings didn't look as nice as these

Personally, I’d rather use them as ancillaries.

I think ancillaries is probably the way to go.

well tough as they staying as portraits, [anywho the immersion may still be kept, portraits who look like priests will be priests, others who look like civilians will be diplomats/merchants. Those which look shifty will be spy/assassins. So you won't have somone who looks like a catholic priest being a general for example.

if we did that we would have almost no portraits left since nearly all of them are like that. With the exception of the mongols/byzantines

Then I would ahve wasted numerous hours of my life selecting which portraits, cropping them. converting them and numbering them '001,002,003' etc. P

You seem to miss the point. We don't want to disregard your work but DotS is ultimately historical mod made by history geeks and likes of us can recognize people on the images in OP instantly. Considering the mod when released certainly won't be for players looking for arcade action (not knowing history or the people on portaits) but for those looking for historically accurate game with medieval atmosphere it is likely they will recognize them as well and it would ruin their immersion. Making compilation of portraits is a good thing but using famous historical figures' portraits in it simply is not...

    fair point touche.

Still though if DOTS wants actual historical portraits rather than modern portrayals then there are going to have to be historical figures in the game as they are the ones who commisoned portraits.
It come down to compromise do you want historical portraits if yes then you are going to have to deal with famous portraits. Which one is more important, having some breaks in immersion by having historical figures or no immersion by having no actual portraits?

sorry if I sound like an annoying , it isn't intended ^-^

No immersion by having no actual portraits for Family Members. And if we use historical portraits for agents and ancillaries, they should be "generic" people, no famous kings or painters...

I think the original MTW portraits will do just fine. Unless anyone can travel back in time with a canvas and a brush, then come back with a portrait of every single monarch and nobleman that lived at the time..

I do not agree with you. I even dislike the vanilla portaits and authentic portrairts give you a more 'medieval feeling'.

Wouldnt the most historical accurate thing would be to use 2d images such as seen in church frescos? There are many medival frescos illustrating various rulers.
