Default Why do alliances disappear from the diplomatic menu?

I can offer an alliance to eveyone at the start of a campaign, but as war are waged and things happen, this option seems to disappear and never come back

No matter how much money at thow at someone and even if our relations are "good", the alliance doesn't show on the diplomatic window.

Also, why won't the AI ever accept my ceasefire proposals?

I don't know about the alliance option, but the reason they don't accept peace is that the AI is incredibly thick. It literally is too stupid to live.

Probably because you are at war with one or more of this nation's allies. You need to stop waging this war so that the "alliance" option appears.

And Mr. Magi is right. The Ai is too stupid to accept your ceacefire proposals even if they are on their last legs.

When you are at war with on of the other nationsī allies (or if they are at war with one of yours) it is impossible to declare an alliance.

The AI only accept Ceasefire proposals if youīre NOT a large, all-devouring empire and if they know that they canīt win.
But if they feel like a ceasefire would only postpond the inevitable, they will simply choose to die sooner rather than later.

    @Leto Atreides
Are you seeing the option of ceasefire coz first you need that for seeing the alliance option.
Trade rights also disappears if you are war with that faction.
One can always ally with enemy's ally(will be hard to convince) to get ceasefire with the enemy.

Remember acceptance of such proposals are taken easily if your global rep is good.

Its funny when you think of it; "It (the AI) literally is too stupid to live" lol. They are correct, the AI really rather die than accept ceasefires and alliances that are actually beneficial to them.

Also, when you are attempting to ally with a nation whose at war with your ally most of the time won't work. I find this kind of weird though. Sometimes I can ally with a faction whose ally is at war with me and sometimes I can't.

OMG I remember my current Portugal campaign on Hard/Hard I was at war with the Holy Roman Empire, whom lost three settlements in total against me; Bologna, Vence (how the heck they get that!?), and Innsbruck. I managed to stop our war by alling with Poland for 10K. Guess what happens? Holy Roman Empire attacks me the same friggin turn. Guess who Poland picks? Holy Roman Empire... BTW for some reason even giving them 10K for an alliance was generous offer but it only increase my relations to them to "so-so" WTF!? My Reputation is "mixed" unfortunately thanks to all the enemies I have, even though not one single war was started by me. Not one of them will ceasefire....

Basically, you will find it almost impossible to get an alliance the later the game progress. Get an ally in the beginning and try your best to keep them satisfied, cause thats all you going to be able to do.

I know I can't ally with factions that are currently at war with me. I'm talking about the neutrals.

I'm playing as Portugal. My reputation is reliable. I'm at war with Milan and Denmark. Allied to the Papal State and England.

All the other factions are neutral, but I can't see the "alliance" option on when I talk to them.

Yes, but we are talking about the factions allied to those who you are fighting against. Eg: you are Portugal, and you are at war with Milan, and let's say.. Venice is allied to Milan. So you can't ally them.

By the time you're at war with nearly every faction, and noone wants to ceasefire you, then you're probably already beating the living daylight out of them.
