    Default The troubles of Depression.

Here I would like to discuss with the TWC about the horrors of Depression.
    (according to wiki)
Major depressive disorder, recurrent depressive disorder, clinical depression, major depression, unipolar depression, or unipolar disorder is a mental disorder characterized by an all-encompassing low mood accompanied by low self esteem, and by loss of interest in normally enjoyable activities. Major depression is a disabling condition which adversely affects a person's family, work or school life, sleeping and eating habits, and general health. Depressed people may be preoccupied with, or ruminate over, thoughts and feelings of worthlessness, inappropriate guilt or regret, helplessness, hopelessness, and self-hatred. In severe cases, depressed people may have symptoms of psychosis. These symptoms include delusions or, less commonly, hallucinations, usually unpleasant. Other symptoms of depression include poor concentration and memory, withdrawal from social situations and activities, and thoughts of death or suicide. A depressed person may report multiple physical symptoms such as fatigue, headaches, or digestive problems. Appetite often decreases, with resulting weight loss, although increased appetite and weight gain occasionally occur.

The concept of depression is more controversial in regards to children, and depends on the view that is taken about when self-image develops and becomes fully established. Depressed children may often display an irritable mood rather than a depressed mood, and show varying symptoms depending on age and situation. Most lose interest in school and show a decline in academic performance. They may be described as clingy, demanding, dependent, or insecure. Diagnosis may be delayed or missed when symptoms are interpreted as normal moodiness.

The biopsychosocial proposes that biological, psychological, and social factors all play a role in causing depression. The "diathesis stress model" specifies that depression results when a pre-existing vulnerability, or diathesis, is activated by stressful life events. The pre-existing vulnerability can be either genetic, implying an interaction between nature and nurture, or schematic, resulting from views of the world learned in childhood.

Many great men and woman in history have suffered from this Mental Disorder and some say it is because of this disorder that they had become great.
(And so on, the website for those of you who want to learn a little bit more.)

I myself suffer from depression and I would like to discuss with all of you about this sad, terrible mental sickness. We can discuss many things about this Disorder (the impact that it has had on us or on other people, the disorder itself, what we can personally do to try to fix and or coup with it and or many other things).

    Edit:Anybody?

I suffer from depression and I have considered suicide several times. And the depression itself doesn't seem to affect me all the time but often I would get intense feelings of worthlessness and loneliness. It's quite a horrible disease though regular cardio vascular exercise definitely makes it better for me.

Hehe you are kind of like me, exercising always does make me feel better, but then those horrid moments of sadness and worthlessness make me want to hide in the corner and plot my revenge on the people that have made me sad(although I never do follow through with it, still it does make me feel better(sometimes).

Yeah I've been having a deep depression for more than half of my life.. and I too have considered (almost did it) suicide...... what you feel when you are at your worst in a depression is simply.. there is no description.. because it is unlike anything a person would feel "normally", or rather it is, but 10x the intensity.

The worst is, when you are depressed, you get weaker, and anything can push you towards the edge and into total breakdown. It's a really debilitating disease that affects EVERYTHING that you are. Sometimes I wonder what kind of person I would be if I had not have this "inhibition", since it affects my memory, rationalizing capabilities, social interaction, way of looking and understanding the world, I mean.. everything gets negatively affected by it. Even when you feel happy, deep down you know it's just gonna be a while until you feel completely down again. Then you are with these UP's and DOWN's constantly, never knowing how you will exactly feel or act when faced with certain situations.

It's horrible, and I wish I knew how to get out of this... friends and hobbies are what helps me the most, but sometimes it's just not enough.. sometimes death is really the only thing that seems to be able to end it all...

Went through a six month phase of depression, suicidal thoughts. There's a sticky dedicated to this in the Advice forum isn't there?
