    Default Make up my mind!

Having trouble deciding if I shall play with OST( One Settlement Type ) or without.
    What do you think?

I recommend using it, but then I'm obviously biased.
Here's a few pros and cons, though:
    Pros:

    • Any settlement can be specialized to do any job
    • A settlement will almost never run out of buildings to construct
    • Any settlement can produce any unit, as long as it has the required building
    • Espionage becomes more important, as without it you have no idea if a settlement is focused on economy or military
    • A settlement can be okay at both economy and military, or very good at one

    Cons:

    • There's some duplicate unit entries (but I'll hopefully manage to weed them all out over time, and you don't really notice them except in the building browser)
    • It's harder to tell at a glance what a settlement is specialized to do (but this can be a good thing, it depends on how you look at it)
    • A bit less diverse graphics, as all settlements use city graphics
    • All settlements use city-maps in sieges (but this can be a good thing if you prefer city battles)

Yes. Nice points there. It would be nice being able to retrain units in most cities, not having them to run half across the map to that one specific castle you invested the most in.

But however, it's kind of nice being able to cripple the enemy by taking a castle or two. No professional army to meet anymore. Just the city militias.

But since you recommend OST, I will give it a try.

Yeah, this is a tough one... really, what we call "settlements" in MTW are actually regions, that obviously had many cities and castles. Reducing a region to one of the former or latter has always troubled me, but with the region restrictions, it's impossible to get around. The ideal would be to have about 4-6X the number of regions currently in the game, but sadly this is not to be.

The idea of having both in one region is intriguing... it would force the player to focus on development of military vs. economic even more than usual early in a campaign. At first blush, I like it!

Well, he's not really objective, so you shouldn't take his advice (he made OTS).

But I agree with him, in dHRR it worked really well and the AI didn't mess up really bad either.

I have mixed feelings so far- on the one hand the AI builds more interesting armies early on and there seems to be better balance between factions. On the other hand so far in longer campaign I "tested" not played- the AI seemed to struggle building some of the very high end buildings though it did build some military buildings much earlier than you would expect otherwise so probably changes the flow of the game quite a bit as rather than 100 turns to reach many fortress/citadels cities grow faster and able to build kings stables or some other things earlier than otherwise if that build path is a focus.

    Are those the stand-alone versions?
The stand-alone version of OST does not work with 2TP.
Download the Compilation if you want them to work together.
